You are very wise. I'm an old lady who was blessed to buy very good quality classics during my professional career. I culled some items early on & learned it was a huge mistake! 30 yrs later much of my wardrobe is back in style--with tweaking--and better quality than you can buy now. Now, my occasional quality purchase fits my meagre income, but I'm still in style and I'm happy with that.

I love this concept and would love to see more thoughtful videos from you where you evaluate your current collections - such as bags, coats and shoes. Would love to see your train of thought on what you keep and why. I think at some stage we all need to do a declutter and audit of our wardrobe and evaluate what we actually wore in that particular season and why. Please do film these - I'd really love to see these ❤

I love watching Hannah as well! Simple and timeless style with elevated lovely basics, bags and coats. I got luxury- influenced to buy a vintage Chanel flap with $$ I perhaps should not have spent… but I do love it! I’m so conflicted 😂. One thing though…I will no longer waste money on fast fashion.

Love your wish list - so chic! I kinda did what you spoke of (instead of buying a lot of smaller items, save the money and invest in pricier items) this year, although now I have reached purse peace and happy that I never have to "invest" in a purse again, I now think of other things I could have done with all that money.. Maybe I shouldn't have even wanted those purses in the 1st place. Anyway, this is to say this whole "low buy" thing is also a never ending cycle that will keep haunting you until you stop buying anything completely
@katie_louise11 ай бұрын
Yeah I get that and think that too! I’m going to do a video on the other ways I’m spending/investing/saving my money this year that has nothing to do with clothing, as I don’t want these videos to suggest that’s all you should spend money on. For me, it’s one small slice of the pie that brings me joy 😊

I would so love to follow this train of thought but find it so hard to resist although I have almost moved away from fast fashion but still do look at higher end fast fashion. I will look forward to seeing what you do purchase from your list. I would be interested in seeing both your bag and coat collection. Bev x

It’s a journey! It also doesn’t need to be so black and white, I think. Fine to buy fast fashion occasionally that you love and will wear until it falls apart! Thank you Bev, will get those filmed this week! ☺️

Hi Katie, I totally agree with the concept of this video and it made me work on my own wishlist. I still need to get some basic pieces that I’m missing because I’ve decluttered a lot - both selling and giving away (maybe I should do a video on this? I have a specific process for it) and I’m now missing some core pieces. That’ll be my mission for the coming months. I totally agree, accessories change everything. Maybe it will take you some time to make these purchases, but you’ll be so happy in the end. And those are pieces that are less subject to trends, so you’ll keep them for such a long time! I’d love to see the progress ❤

Hey, loved your video! I must say that for me, knowing my colors and body shape has really helped me to shop smart and not waste my money. I wanted to ask, do you have any backpack that you recommend? For me, going to the office with my laptop on the back is the best way to make sure I don't put too much stress on my body since I do it everyday. Would love to invest in a good one that is also stylish and has a lot of room for computer, Ipad and a huge bottle of water 😂

Wow! Truly curious. What do you do for a living? I just made my 2024 clothing budget (3% of mine and my fiancés take home pay) and well..I couldn’t even buy half that purse if it was the only thing I bought lol. Impressive! I did unbox my second Sézane purchase today. So excited. Nothing better than getting a beautiful box from Sézane. And thank you so much for that boot recommendation today. I have wide calves and can never find boots. I’m so excited. Maybe I will purchase a pair for my fall wardrobe this year!!

*edit* I saw at the end of your video that you might not be able to buy all of these things this year. Still impressive and I am interested in what you do for a living :-) all of your selections were beautiful. I too prefer few or nicer things, my fiancé, and I joke all the time that he could take the same amount of money and buy 10x as much. he is not necessarily interested in fewer nicer things. He’s more interested in fewer cheaper things lol.

Right now I'm in the middle due to some size changes I've had for health reasons, so I still need my sezane blouse and I'm missing some things on the bottom. Even so, I think that there are things that have priority for me because of the rotation they have: footwear, bags, jewelry, belts and outerwear. I always try to prioritize what has the most turnover, which is that, and I mix it with the garments to achieve the greatest profitability. What I have decided is to buy less at vinted this year because lately I have had some sezane purchases that have been a disaster and in the end adjustments, repairs... it costs me more and that is if I can achieve it. So this year I prefer to buy a little more expensive but with the security that it will reach my home
@katie_louise11 ай бұрын
That sounds sensible. I totally understand what you mean about Vinted. As much as I love secondhand shopping, I often find most of my ‘mistake’ purchases come from there. I rush into buying something because it’s a ‘bargain’ and then realise I’ve made the wrong choice and end up selling it on, often for less than I paid for it! Good food for thought. Thanks for sharing 😊
@chlomo261811 ай бұрын
I think with the watch, it would be better to compromise on the brand than the style of watch. If you get the stainless steel version (which I'm assuming is still a hefty wedge of cash) you might find yourself frustrated that it doesn't go with your gold jewellery and doesn't have the look you really wanted, even if it does carry the cachet of the Cartier name. I'd suggest looking past the brand name and seeking out more affordable but still nice quality watch designs that share the characteristics you're drawn to in the gold Cartier.
@katie_louise11 ай бұрын
Yes I will definitely consider this! I’ve looked at all the alternatives and struggle to find one that I like as much, but that’s probably because of the appeal of having the Cartier name behind it, totally appreciate that. Sometimes I buy an alternative and still find myself wanting the actual item, so in that case I’d prefer to just hold of and get the ‘real thing’ one day. But I get your point, I need to consider if I’ll be happy with the stainless steel 🤔
@ssws198911 ай бұрын
Ohh, I think the watch would be a mistake. Sounds like you are talking yourself into a buy that is too big of a compromise. Lots of love ❤

I’ve just got the tailored coat in chocolate melange, it’s amazing. I wish it had belt loops but that’s really the only negative about the coat. The colour is so special too. I have the Nee York coat in grey on my wish list but I will wait until next year though. I also have a watch on my list, but I would like to get a proper Swiss watch, thinking of something from Omega. I agree to have fewer and nicer items but I slightly disagree when you say that you’re not buying fast fashion at all because Sezane scores as fast fashion now by any possible mesures.
@katie_louise11 ай бұрын
Ahh so good to know you love it! Totally understand Sézane is resembling fast fashion more and more these days. I still don't think it can be put into the same category as Zara or H&M though. It's a sliding scale I suppose. I still wouldn't consider Sézane true fast fashion (yet).

I really liked your point noticing the rising price point of the things you are aspiring to. I think it's really astute to observe that and want to keep an eye on this type of lifestyle creep, because it is really insidious. It's seductive to think that seeking out higher quality purchases is a laudable goal, and there are definite advantages to that, but as you say, it could also get you on a hamster wheel with no end in sight. Great insight.

Totally agree. I wanted to be honest in this video about what I was actually wanting but I’m not saying I should be buying any of this, or that it’s ‘worth’ the money, mostly it’s not. These fashion girlies as you call them live in a specific algorythm. For most people however, we have a salary and bills to pay. Anything that is left over goes into savings, holidays or purchases. This idea that influencers like theannaedit put out that women over 30 should shop at Toteme, Acne etc. are absolute hacks. Not in this economy. Money is valuable, let´s not make dumb purchases just because the algorythm tells you it´s the next best thing.
@katie_louise11 ай бұрын
Haha, see I would put Anna into the other camp, her outfits are pretty simple, made up of expensive pieces and not that 'experimental'. I totally agree that money is valuable, but it's subjective. Everyone has different budgets. The audience Anna is catering to can most likely afford brands like Toteme, and still save, invest and go on holiday. If you can't do those things first, then no, you shouldn't be buying from those brands. But I don't think there is anything wrong with purchasing from those brands if you love then clothes and they fit into your budget.
@hijlaa11 ай бұрын
@@katie_louise there is 100% nothing wrong with purchasing from these brands, but my issue with this type of influencing is normalising buying a lot of items under the guise of investment buys. The income of your average worker is not the same as those who make big bucks with social media. It's feeding into consumerism.
@katie_louise11 ай бұрын
@@hijlaa yeah I understand that. What would be the alternative though? Her job is really to recommend and review clothing, I wouldn't say that she is overly pushy (a lot of her recent content is about rewearing your existing items). I totally get people are being more careful with money these days but in my opinion, there is still a big audience of people who aren't influencers, but make a good income, and want to see these kinds of videos. Otherwise they wouldn't be so highly watched!
@hijlaa11 ай бұрын
@@katie_louise I would say the alternative is authenticity.
@katie_louise11 ай бұрын
@@hijlaa authenticity is key. I think it's hard to become such a trusted influencer, with a large following, a bit like Anna is, without authenticity. She wouldn't make money if people didn't buy through her recommendations again and again. That's just my opinion though, everyone has a different one 😊
