I've been making this for a few years, it's my favorite low carb dish. I really like the flavors when I use fresh minced ginger and garlic, and I use a wok. The wok gets some of the cabbage charred, sort of like when you buy chicken teriyaki from a restaurant and the chicken is charred. it's a real treat. Love all your videos!

I used Sambal, Oelek (Asian section of Trader Joe's/Whole foods or any grocer)- it's a 0 carb ground fresh chili paste. I added 2 Truvia packets along with the rest of your ingredients, some cauliflower rice and green onions. Man oh man!!! Delicious and the cauliflower rice made it even more filling - otherwise I would have eaten the pan. Oh also topped the Caulirice with a bit of soy sauce😊

Made this dish for years. Use chopped up pork breakfast sausages. Cook the cabbage right in the pork fat along with a chopped onion, salt and pepper and soy sauce. Can also add celery and green peas. Kids loved it.

Hi, Sharon! Someone told me that this is also sometimes called "Egg Roll in a Bowl", which now makes perfect sense! It's a little more highly seasoned (to me, anyway) than traditional egg roll filling. And yes, it's super easy and fast. Especially for the payoff in flavor.
@seecanon58407 жыл бұрын
Sharon Ray .....you can make a skin by beating an egg throughly and cooking a thin layer in a non-stick 8 or 9 inch skillet on both sides. For this I did leave the eggs out and used veg and meat. Sans soy sauce because I can't have salt. Wonderful.

I know this is an older video, but I'm just starting my low(ish) carb journey to help control my blood sugar and just made my way to the High Falutin' Headquarters. Wes, I love, love, love what you've got going on here and thank you for introducing me to this dish. I've made the beef and chicken version. But my absolute favorite is sausage. A local store here grinds and sells their own sausage and it's delicious on its own. I know exactly what goes into it and it's zero carbs. If you try sausage, do be careful when selecting your sausage. Carbs pop up in the most unexpected places so always look! But in the crack slaw, sausage is far and away better than the beef or chicken. I think so anyway. The other thing I do is I stir fry it twice. I cook it like normal, but then throw it in the fridge. I'll even portion it out into individual servings when I'm just making for myself. But then when I'm ready to serve, I throw it back into the pan (I use a wok - doesn't make as big a mess) with a little more oil. I originally did this to just reheat leftovers. But now it's standard operating procedure because it tends to caramelize the cabbage. And that just kicks it up another notch. It's so good that now even my friends and family who aren't eating low carb ask me to make it for them. I don't follow a recipe. Sometimes its ginger and garlic. Sometimes its lemongrass. I use the stuff in the tubes. Just squeeze it out and cook away. And then just what ever spices I happen to remember to put in. I use what I have and am not afraid to experiment. I urge you and your followers to do the same. This is a "staple" with me. So easy. So fast. So good! Thanks again Wes for what you're doing here. And I get six servings for less than $ 1.75 each? Bonus!

Just saw you comment over at Keto Connect, which reminded me I wanted to try crack slaw since I saw your vid! So today I finally took to it, used a quarter head of cauliflower, did use Kikkoman's soy sauce (le gasp!), substituted tahin paste for the sesame oil, used sriracha, dialed the ginger down since I'm not a fan, and my sweetener of choice was erythritol. It was pretty darn good, though not addictingly so (I mean, I'm one of the lost souls who go crazy over ice cream and cheese cake...). Nonetheless, it hits the 'Asian restaurant' flavour pretty much on the head and the macros aren't too bad, either (13.5 g of carbs in that whole recipe I made; though I'm not sure if this equals to net carbs as we Germans don't count 'em that way). So, thank you for the inspo and keep 'em coming!

Never heard of crack slaw but I’ve been making something similar that I have two to three times a week on my keto diet. I use 5oz’s homemade sausage (ground pork shoulder with sage salt and pepper). 7oz,s chopped cabbage and two tbsp bacon fat. Seasoned with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, a few splashes of cider vinegar and some Saracha sauce. Quick easy, tastes great and very satisfying.

Looks delicious. I've watched her do that recipe several times over the last 2 years and I've never tried it. I think I'll give it a try. And... egg roll in a bowl. I've avoided that because I love the crispy wonton wrapper and just thought it would be pointless but I tasted something recently that made me think maybe it is worth it even without the wrapper so I'm going to give that a try. If you love Asian like I do maybe you can do that recipe. And I totally agree with you about the sesame oil. There's no substitute for the delicious flavor it lends and a tsp taste like a cup so go enjoy! Lol
