Awwww girl, YES. Once you go Low G, you can’t go back. It’s got such a mood to it. Works better for me as an alto singer too.

one thing I would like to point out is, tune the Low G string using your tuner in 'Chromatic' mode instead of as 'Ukulele' mode, as I found out that you can break the string by over tightening it to a 'G4' and not as it should be for a Low G 'G3'

Yes! It won’t pick it up if it’s in ukulele mode.

I have a Low G on one of my concert ukulele's, and to be honest, it sounds way way better than the high G concert ukulele, I had to modify the nut a bit as I used Aquila Red series strings, but it was defo worth it, oh so warm and mellow

Yes! I’m really liking it so far. It makes it sound more like a baritone!

This is that iz kamakawiwoʻole tuning and Ernie Ball makes Ball End Low G Ukulele Strings so that restringing is even easier plus it lets the strings come out of the bridge at a steeper angle over the saddle

I have my Uke turn into low-G setting using Ernie Ball too; But I decided to unload the end ball and just knot will do and fit well compared to the end ball. It sound soo good, Ernie Ball string is so smooth and soft. I love the 4th string so much, as strumming so lively and balanced.

@@mohdhalmymdyusoff5836 The bridge beads actually convert tie end strings into ball end strings because it increases the break angle without tying the string over itself which often reduces it

You may change all strings to get consistent voicings among them.

I use an Aquila Red non-wound low-G string on my tenor and concert ukuleles that I convert. The non-wound string doesn't squeak like that.

Yes and I can't stand that noise, hard on the nerves. I just had my solid mahogany Tenor Kala restrung with a D'Addario fluorocarbon set with an unwound low G. LOVE the new sound !

I have found Aklot ukuleles actually tie the A and G strings together inside their pull through bridges. Something to look out for.
@CoryTeachesMusic3 жыл бұрын
Whoa really? Weird! I’ve never seen that before. I’ve had Aklot ones in the past but I guess I never changed any of the strings on them. Thanks for the note!

Yes, I had a helluva time replacing just the high c string on my Aklot 8-string ukulele because the strings were tied and maybe even glued together inside the body by the factory. That is a stupid way to string a uke.

Cory can you double check the Amazon link for the Aquila low g string please? At the moment it is a KZbin link to a Fleetwood Mac tutorial.

Was able to find it by searching and have ordered it. Just thinking the link may be more convenient for others. I can’t wait to get it. I will let you know once I string it up and try it out. Thanks for another informative video.

Hi I ordered a ukulele not knowing it came with a low G string I still don’t know how to tune the low G string what is an Octave down is it - 50 on a ukulele setting on a clip on tuner or is it a G or G3 on the guitar setting on a clip on tuner im so confused
@thedivabetic3 жыл бұрын
Alright, I finally tried this on my own! I might need a few days to decide what I think. Upon my first sample playing, I felt like the low G kind of overpowered a lot of my other strings, so that was the only note I really noticed- but maybe that's because I've only played regular ukulele and so it sticks out to me? Or maybe the songs that I've chosen to learn all just shine with the high G, and I have to try some other tunes to really appreciate the low G. Let me know if you have any additional thoughts after having it for awhile!
@CoryTeachesMusic3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that can happen. It changes the overall tone quality a bit of some chords because the bass bite can shift a little with the low g so I am still working on navigating that!

I've noticed that everyone cuts their string rather than just take it off. Wouldn't it be better to just keep the old one?
@CoryTeachesMusic2 жыл бұрын
You can, but if they have already been tied it’s hard to reuse them. Plus, once they have been trimmed from originally putting them in, it again makes it hard to put back on and reuse cause they are much shorter.
