Low Light Test f3.5 vs f2.8 vs f1.8 | Ultimate Comparison (The Power of Fast Lenses)

This is a low light test comparison between different aperture modes ranging from f3.5 down to f1.7. For these tests I used the Panasonic Lumix G9 and the Leica 15mm f1.7. The purpose of this video was to discover how much more light you get with a fast glass, because often we buy a camera with a kit lens that has an aperture of f/3.5 and we wonder how much light of a difference would give me f2.8 or f2.5 or f.1.8 etc. I hope you find this video interesting, enjoy!
Check listed price on Amazon for the Leica 15mm f/1.7:
★Amazon US: amzn.to/2FWW5D3
★Amazon UK: amzn.to/2G2qxeU
★Amazon IT: amzn.to/368nHzI

Three years after posting, your video it is still very relevant. I was looking for a light comparison see how much brighter an image is if ISO and shutter speed remains constant, but the aperture varies and yours was the only I could find. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the Sony a6700 with the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. I can also get $150 USD off the Sony 15mm f1.4 G by bundling the purchase with the camera, but was questioning this add as to how much more capability I would have in taking images and videos under very low light conditions. The examples you provided indeed showed a very noticeable improvement when going from f2.8 to f1.4.

@@HenriUnzip great video, I have an Canon R5 and was wondering should I get the 24 to 70 2.8 with imaging stabilization or the 28 to 70 f2 without stabilization. Is the stabilization worth the loss of a stop of aperture with the R5 having ibis in camera. I also have the 35mm 1.8!is lens

Thanks for the video! You're the only one who actually does proper testing! I'm thinking of buying the G9 with the 2 f2.8 zooms. I shoot travel/food photos/videos for my company. Hopefully that will be good enough. Maybe when I earn a bit more I'll get the 10-25mm f1.7. I was so excited about the R6 but full frame is sooo expensive and big.

@@eduardocardona6608 Yeah. Shouldn't be a problem. For shots where I needed everything in focus, if I was using ff, I would have to stop down to f8 or f10 and raise the ISO anyway. I can get f/1.4 primes which have enough bokeh for most purposes.

NEW SUB! if I get the g9 + Lumix 25mm f1.7, which other lens would you recommend me to compliment it for videos? Would the 42.5mm would be a good idea then? I would prefer to take advantage of the dual IS (on a budget lens and also another lens in a mid budget)
@HenriUnzip
@HenriUnzip 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! The 42.5mm would be great for photography portraits. Don't forget that the G9 has a 2X crop factor when compared to a 35 mm full frame. You can take advantage of the dual IS with the 12-35mm f2.8 (mid-budget) very popular lens among MFT system and is a great lens, plus gives you head room for wide shots and close-ups. Regarding your pre choice 25mm f1.7 (equivalent to 50mm), I'd advise you to have a look at the 20mm f1.7 which is known as the pancake, extremely light, image quality on top, no distortion (costs around $250). This is a combo that sets you in a comfortable video zone. Hope it helps

I'm still torn between the sony 11mm and the sigma 10-18mm, with the sigma at f2.8 and the sony at 1.8. Your video is so clear, and the best I've seen on showing the differences between 1.8 and 2.8. Showing a shot of the lens openings is unreal-it's shocking how much difference there is between 2.8 and 1.8. I love the zoom capabilities and, yes, decent 2.8 setting on the sigma, but wow, the 1.8 f on the sony 11mm is so tempting:)!
