The re-done area looks fantastic...and I love John's stone pathway additions! I think you could prune out a few tree branches (not entire trees) and thin out the shrubs and some of the plants on the right side of the walkway (near the steps) to open it up without losing privacy. Always fun to be in the garden with you!

I’m in zone 6a/b S.E. Michigan. I bought a eastern redbud tree from an estate sale six years ago and it is flourishing here. My research which I concluded brought me to the conclusion that Redbud trees do like some shade not full sun. It is thriving here and I even have seed pods from last year, which I winter sowed and now have 7 baby redbuds. Not sure on the next step, but I’m trying to mimic nature. I think it took about three years to maturity for the seed pods.

I love your trees. Perhaps you can have an arborist visit and thin them out a bit so you can see through them a bit from the entrance to your property. Also I think that large bush to the right of the sidewalk could be removed and that would really give you more visual of the house, keep the lower growing perennials and dwarf bushes. Have a wonderful day. 🇨🇦

If gardening was ever done, it would cease to be fun. It is our place to create...each day. It looks marvelous.dont lose the red leafed tree in front of the house. You and the birds would miss it. I would shorten the shrub in front of the red leaf tree to open that area up. Clean up and maintenance and change up in the garden brings the same satisfaction cleaning house and rearranging furniture and adding a bouquet in house brings. There would be no bored housewives if they kept their homes for their families like you do. Always enjoyable. Thank you. I am on break from yard cleanup watching you do same. Lol.

Good morning Mary! Great transformation of this plant bed! Love the Eastern Redbud (I have those in my yard here in NC) and removing the ground cover really gives a fresh look to what you’ve done! In regards to your early on question about the trees on other side of the sidewalk, I think giving them a good pruning and shaping them up would help to give you a clearer vision as to what you need to do…keep or delete. Hope this helps! 💕

Looks absolutely beautiful!! I know it must be extremely difficult to dig in the dirt and hit rocks a majority of the time but for someone who doesn’t have that problem, you are truly blessed to have that many at your disposal to use as stepping stones or garden bed boarders…to have to buy them for such purposes, it is really expensive for that type of hardscaping. Really love your transformation and the planting you chose. Trees are so pretty especially looking out from inside. I probably wouldn't want limbs too close to deck because of snakes that could fall from them. Turned out beautifully. It really is the fun part of gardening to move things around and change things up. The red bud tree is a perfect addition.

I really admire how hard working you and your husband are. It is so nice to see how your husband jumps on to help you. Very inspiring to see a married couple work side by side. Your garden looks beautiful. And please dont cut your trees back. I love them!

So beautiful! I think EVERY gardener is constantly tweaking their space. It is hard sometimes to bite the bullet on an established bed, but you just gotta do it! Last week I took apart a strawberry patch and redid the whole space. I had nine buckets of plants! 🤦🏻‍♀️ We planted a Red Bud about five years ago and I love it! So far it’s done very well. Glad to hear your vegetable garden is doing well. I picked my first zucchini’s yesterday! Regarding your question about the trees, they’re too beautiful to remove unless they are damaging your foundation, etc. But if you, John or an experienced tree trimmer just goes in and thins them out and trims a few branches, it will make a world of difference. Sorry for your storm damage. Two weeks ago, we lost a huge part of our Bradford pear tree. But like you, it could have been much worse. Your plant selection is wonderful! And thank you for showing us the countryside. So lovely! Love your channel!

Mary, it is absolutely breathtaking, and it blends so beautifully with the rest of your property. You and John are a dream team! I love seeing you two together! Your trees on the right side are so pretty....maybe just a bit of trimming to thin them out would be all they need. Your landscaping videos are fantastic!! (As are all of your videos!) Happy gardening! Linda 💚💚

how your garden looks and the feeling it gives you is super important. it's our little slice of the planet that we get to make better for the wild animals around us and ourselves. beauty boosts the mood and provides everyone with a sense of pride. love it and keep your trees. don't cut them down. your views outside your windows and on your decks are like being on vacation in a tree house. finally, just listen to the birdsong in your video. they are sooo happy.

🎉A FABULOUS TRANSFORMATION!🎉 Your hard work paid off! Enjoy! P.S. If I may suggest, I don't know if you watch Garden Answer, but on that channel Laura uses Espoma's BioTone in just about every new planting & it works--- I never plant without it. I hope that helps, especially for your tree! ❤🌳🌱🍃🌲

Lovely result! As for your mature trees, you might consider tracking down a REALLY,REALLY TERRIFIC tree trimmer and maybe trim them up or thin them. PLEASE don’t remove them! You can create space and light with a pro’s artful pruning. 98% of tree trimmers are not artful. Find the 2% best!🌺

Looks absolutely gorgeous!! Love the way it all came out!! ...However, I am concerned about the placement of your Green Giant Arbs. They get 50 to 60ft tall and 12 to 20 ft. wide. And they grow pretty quickly. Your stone path would disappear and be blocked, unless you plan on massively trimming them every year. The Emerald Green Arb. grows narrow, pyramidal, and quickly gets tall, making a great privacy element.
