I personally think it’s a matter of status. The way his brain views everything and every interaction as a matter of hierarchy. Losses against “nobodies” are an existential threat to his ego. Whilst when fighting established players they legitimate his want to be seen as skilled. Every near loss means he could’ve beaten them any mid,low or throw that hits gives him the ability to feel okay in his head because in his head he won.
