I had an ankle joint replaced 6 years ago. I use Camino leather lined boots as my everyday shoe to make sure I protect that ankle. I really like the comfort and lacing system. These will probably last many years. One problem I had with 3 pairs of Meindle is the sole falling off. They were hunting boots that didn't get very much use so I had them 8-10 years. The inner rubber sole literally disintegrated into a powdery substance and the soles came off. I don't know if this is unique to Meindle or common for all boots.

I just bought the Camino Full Grain last Black Friday, and they come with the mountain insole which for me was solid. The full grain leather is amazing on them, but they do not offer them anymore.

Just curious how do you have a 50-70 pound backpack? The most my pack had ever weighed was for a 5 day trip and my pack weighed 44 pounds with 4 liters of water.

I'm a gear nut and love to bring stuff with me plus. I also have legs that don't tire from weight and loading my bag with 70lbs isn't any type of challenge for me personally or hasn't been yet lol. I like to train heavy, so if I have to carry someone out I'm capable of doing that ( which I've done for my wife who rolled her ankle 6 miles from the trail head ) My brother on the other hand is a bring nothing type of hiker and we make fun of each other all the time in good fun.

I have wider feet and have the Lowa Renegade Wide, Lowa Tibet Wide and Camino GTX wide, and tried various insoles. The insoles that come with Lowa boots are all the same and are more meant to be taken out and customized. They are rubbish. From all the insoles I've tried, my favourites are SOLE insoles. For the Lowa Tibet, I use the SOLE Active Wide Thick, combined with WigWam thin to medium thick socks for heavy/long backpacking trips. The Renegade and Camino, I use the SOLE Active Wide Medium, which are absolutely amazing and a phenomenal upgrade to already suuuper comfy boots. I've bought my first pair of Renegades in 1998, pretty much when they came out. Sizing is same as Salomon, I wear a 9.5 in both brands. I hope that helps. They're all amazing shoes. If you just need or can afford one pair, get the Camino. The Tibet is a beast that never dies (it's indestructible, but heavy), the Renegade can't be resoled. The Camino is the perfect medium, and a stellar hiking boot for camping, backpacking etc. I wear the Renegade every day when not backpacking (roughly 280 days a year) and a pair lasts me 2-3 years. The Camino I wear 60-80 days a year, and it'll probably last a decade. The Tibet will probably survive me.

SOLE actives and sometimes Sofsole Airrs. I've worn Mammut, Scarpa and the occasional Lowa boots for years. Mammut do a goodish memory foam insole and they're a bit more cushioned. Scarpa and Lowa insoles wear out too fast and provide little cushioning. With Scarpa I think this is a deliberate decision to keep the wearer aware of the ground but I feel like my feet have been beaten up over a long trek. It seems like spending this amount of money should get you a boot with a decent insole but that's not my experience.

Before you broke them in. How was the fit? Where were they tight? If the outer toes fit snug and tight in the boot, is this a sign to get the next size up or should i persevere and break them In?
@PNWoutdoorReviews
@PNWoutdoorReviews Жыл бұрын
I did have a little bit of break in on the renegades, mostly on sides of my foot below my toes, but if your feeling tightness around the toes I'd personally go up a size. I'm going to try a size up on the renegades next time around just to get a better comparison to fit. The Camino's were good to go on day one.

@@PNWoutdoorReviews thanks for the reply. I’m a bit tossed on boot selection. I’m a heavier guy so I need a bit more support for even day hikes without a pack. I'm extremely happy with the toe room in the renegades. I wear these 10hours a day 4 days a week and my feet are good at the end of each day. You told both models are wide fit. But when you show them on camera together, the camino boot looked much narrower. I want to buy the camino pair for myself, but i have wide feet and i'm worried aren't they gonna be too narrow. Also, is there really a difference in the width between the two models?

Have you tried Meindl or Hanwag? For the price of the Camino you could easily get a good pair of Meindl or Hanwag, which in my opinion are a cut above. I have the Renegade GTX for everyday use, and picked them up for US$135 in Finland plus only $20 Fedex. They’re ok, but they’re well down on Meindl for comfort and durability. At around $150 delivered I’m happy, but Meindl make much better boots, and Hanwag are really hard core.

Got the Lowa Camino and really happy with them, outstanding shoes, just on point for my preferences and my footshape. Before I bough these I've tried everything on Meindl Island, Hanwag Alaska and another Lowa Models like Z6N and so on, but Camino was the best for me, the wider (wxl) version was the key. Perfect balanced between comfort and stability, not too sturdy to walk long trails and sturdy enough to go in mid high mountains. Every shoes got theire week points and the Camino is no exception but in overall its a beastly performer. Thats not my last Lowa. Thanks for the Video and comparison. Good luck in the future.

@@MywebsiteWP I'd recommend the Renegade. I have wider feet too, and commented above on the sizing and insoles etc on Billy Jones comment. I do like Hanwag, I tried the Hanwag Banks, I've had (and still have) the Hanwag Alaska I bought over 20 years ago (and it's very beat up), but for a daily light hiking boot, the Renegade is hard to beat, especially if you have wider feet like me.
