No hiking or camping video this week, but thought I'd do a quick review of my latest daypack that I upgraded to a few weeks ago. It's a Lowe Alpine Airzone Active 22, and I upgraded from an older Lowe Pro day pack in order to improve the airflow around my back. Really pleased with it, so thought I'd share it with viewers in case they are looking for a new one themselves!

I bought one of these today (£56 from Blacks by St. Pauls in London), as I'm fed-up with expensive Photo Backpacks cooking my back and I wanted a TMP to hopefully improve that for the Summer. Afterwards I found the full feature list, and I've been looking at reviews trying to trace everything down: * AirZone LT lightweight, breathable suspended mesh carry system (I'd just call this a TMP) * Internal zipped security pocket * Zipped main opening * Side compression straps * Zipped top pocket * Sternum strap with whistle * Stretch water bottle side pockets * Secure TipGripper walking pole attachments * Front stash pocket for quick access * Rain cover * Hydration compatible - fits 3L bladder * Key clip * Light loop I did think the zips didn't look that waterproof so happy to find the rain cover. The Whistle took a little longer. Worked out where the hydration pack and its tube goes, just stuck with the Key Clip and Light Loop... hopefully soon... The 780g weight is IMHO excellent! So far I'm very happy :-) (Edit) Okay, the "Key Clip" is on a short strap inside the externally accessible pocket, at the top on the opposite end to where the zip pull will be when open... the Light loop (for a Red rear light) is at the bottom rear just above the "Raincover" logo. (The Whistle, in case anyone hasn't found it yet, is part of the plastic clip on the right side chest (sternum) strap with the blow-into hole on the top. Oh and I assume the Water Bladder - RAB make a 2l one I think may fit - goes in the large stretch-top pocket closest to your back inside the main compartment and the hose comes out the hole - with handy H2O logo - at the top right as you are wearing it? I'd just shove a water bottle in one of the exterior side pockets though, especially with any camera gear in it...)

Many thanks for all the additional info Jon! How is it working for you as a photo pak? I'd be a bit concerned about the lack of padding? I'd already found the whistle, but wasn't aware of the light loop! 👍😁

@@DesGreene My overall plan was to use photo cubes, but in reality just shoving a sheet of the really large bubble wrap (25mm bubbles) in the bottom/sides and job done...
@JonInLondon
@JonInLondon Ай бұрын
@@DesGreene I'm still debating a photo cube or something but for now I just use some of that very chunky bubble wrap (with about 30mm wide/10mm thick bubbles - guesstimated) as I have a couple of sturdy sheets of it. The Bag's main plusses are it's well made, very light, it doesn't cook your back, and there's nothing that complicated about it. I have a Manfrotto 3in1 photo bag you really need your brain in gear to work out which bits of Velcro to part and which zips to use to get into it in the 1 of the 3 ways you want to use. (Also two ThinkTank Glass Taxis, which are great - would be fabulous with a mesh panel - but no longer made.)

Hi Des. Added a comment yesterday but it’s disappeared🤦🏻‍♂️ Great review mate - my old daypack is yonks old and has no back layer to reduce sweat. So enjoyed this one. In fact, so much that we were in Go Outdoors yesterday and I picked one up. £65 and really pleased with it. Good brand and a great little pack - didn’t know that Lowe Alpine were part of RAB now 👍👍👍

Hi Dave. That's great👍 They are a little more expensive than daypacks with just a padded back, but I definitely reckon it's worth the extra. I think they have the same parent company as RAB. Have a great weekend mate👍😊

Great review. Your review videos are brilliant. This is super neat. And ot looks like you hardly know you have it on. Def an upgrade but I'm not sure I would have dropped in liter capacity. But cracking pack. Is the older one now in retirement lol. I still have my eye on a stratos 36 osprey but an Lowe alpine might be on my radar now. You can never have enough backpack 🎒 🎒🎒🎒🥾🥾🥾🥾🥾 the music at the end wad just like a runway walk of high end lux fashion and you modelling the latest in hiking apparel....I can see you getting snapped up for the outdoor runway fashion show lol. Seriously though nice review and looking forward to your next hiking adventure sporting it. Take it easy sir. Speak soon 👍😃👍🥾🥾🎒🙂🥃🥃

Cheers Scott👍😁 It is a lot more comfortable than the old pack. It's after using packs like the Stratos 36 that I thought I'd try and get a day pack with a similar ventilation design. The old day pack is probably going to end its days in Spain. You soon dry out if you get a sweaty back over there! 😂 All the best and catch you soon!

Thanks Nicole! I don't do many reviews, so always umming and ahhing, trying to remember what I'm supposed to say 😂 It is a shame that pocket is slightly too narrow for a standard UK map case, but I suppose most people would use it for a water bladder anyway! Many thanks for watching and see you soon👍😊

Hi Chris. After using larger packs with this mesh design, I decieed my next daypack definitely had to have that feature. They tend to cost a little more, but the Lowe Alpine ones are still pretty reasonable. I'll look forward to seeing what you get👍😊

I have had this backpack for almost a year. It is a very good and comfortable backpack. The only gripe I have about it is that the grey padding-like material on each end of the belt straps rubs against your clothes and starts to wear out and damage your t-shirts or jackets after a while and it becomes annoying. The same grey padding can also be seen on shoulder straps, however I have not experienced the above-mentioned problem.

I haven't noticed this, but I will keep an eye out for similar problems👍 I'm still very pleased with it overall. A very comfortable day pack. Thanks for watching & for the feedback👍👍

I think it's a great pack. I've got the same and the 18L. One small tip: fold your map horizontally instead of vertically. And put it in the mesh pocket on the back.
@DesGreene
@DesGreene 11 ай бұрын
Good packs aren't they? Cheers for the tip on the map storeage. I tend to use a walking app and have the paper map as backup, and don't need to get to it often. So folded differently it will still fit in the bladder pouch. Just wish it was an inch or so wider 😁 Thanks very much for watching and leaving a comment!👍👍

Hi Des, I found this really helpful, so thanks for sharing your review. My current daypack is a Berghaus, which is fine, but it's got that problem you mentioned where it provides no airflow around my back. I might just have to invest in one of these Low Alpine Airzones myself! 😁 Thanks again and all the best 👍

Hi Patrick. I find it really does make a difference, and I've used it in colder weather and through into summer now. There are other brands with similar design, but Lowe seemed to be the best priced of the decent ones when I was looking. Hope it works for you if you go for one!👍😊

Great review of a quality looking pack Des. Of all the 'big' rucksack brands I'd say Lowe has always been my favourite (my first Lowe rucksack I bought in 1988!). I tried an Osprey once and I found it very uncomfortable and sold it on. Cheers, Chris

Hi Simon. I probably should have mentioned how adjustable the straps are! 😁 A bit like a scaled down version of a full size backpack. Definitely a bonus letting your back breathe properly! Wish I'd gone for it sooner but I do like to get full mileage out of my existing kit (tight b***er! 😂) Anyway, the old Lowe Alpine will probably stiil give years of service over in Spain! 👍😊

Hi Terry. I'm the same...like to run mybkit into the ground 😁 But needed a new pack for Spain, so the old one is going to live there.
