But it is somewhat correct, right? For a completely dry sound it would actually work if you were in a box made out of foam. Most of the time you need some reflections for it to sound good especially on headphones. For the best sound you only want reflections coming from the direction behind the microphone. The practical solution to eliminate the other reflections is to take a large box and remove the bottom and front side. Now you put your head inside the box and the microphone outside the box. As a makeshift alternative, instead of a box you could stand with your back to your closet and open its doors.

No, voice actors don't do that. They condition the walls, etc, which are a greater distance from the microphone. They create a "booth" environment, which allows the sound waves to weaken before they hit dampening material. Foam is generally not as good as fabric, by the way. The only people that build boxes around their microphone have been swindled because they don't understand how sound works. And they don't have an ear for the job.
