In lhb coaches I personally feel that side lower berth is very uncomfortable in 2tier coaches because due to the curtains it feels hot inside whereas the side upper has cooling vents but no such vents is provided in side lower berths..

I can feel it bhai. Tum khushi khushi apna luggage rakh ke lower seat me baithe hoge, random uncle (out of nowhere) tapak padenge apne ghutno ka kamar ka problem leke aur tumko guilt trip me aake sacrifice karna padega. Wo uncle chalti train me daudte daudte 2-3 luggage aur aunty ko leke chad jayenge lekin unko chahiye hogi middle seat hi. Upar se agal bagal wale tumko gyan de rahe honge tum to jawan ho uncle ko de do. Are tumko itni dikkat hai to tum de do na apni seat.

To get side lower seat & if seats are available in few numbers like 10-15 or 20 then don't book seat most probably you will get middle or upper. Just wait to get RAC status. In most cases (specially in mine & family members) most of RAC or in other quota try to get waiting list 1,2 which gets confirmed get side lower or Side upper in worst case scenario upper. That's my personal experience this is what is do to get side lower & i never book lower seat because koi na koi lady ya aged aake seat maang leta hai ya extra luggage ke chakkar Mera luggage kahi aur shift karne ko bolte hai😂 That's why Side lower best according to me. I know it's uncomfortable as i am 6'1.

Maine RAC wala try kiya tha ki jaunga baith jaunga RAC thi 155 aur almost same day hi ki thi. Mjhe laga nahi hogi confirm but aide lower milegi aur tt se baat karke adjustment kar lenge ya nahi hua to side lower to hai hi but evenjng me chart prepare ke time ticket hi confirm ho gaya and mili upper berth ji mjhe bilkul achchi nahi lagti. And most of the times yahi hota hai ki upper seat hi milti hai. Jab side lower milti hai mere sath 95%yahi hota hai ki koi old person request karta hi karta hai jinki middle allot ho gayi ho ya upper hi koi hui ho. To badi samasya hai ye side lower pane ke liye sach me ... Best seat hoti hai single person ke liye ...
