Ok so don’t get an angled brush and if you tape everything you don’t need a brush that small either it also doesn’t matter how you hold it unless you are cutting your own straight line then you should hold it like a pencil. Use a roller pole and don’t hand roll it from the ground like these idiots hahaha

Love these videos! HELPFUL TIP: I always cut the strip of the paper paint swatch with the name and sheen of the paint color of the room. Then I tape it to the inside of the light switch cover. That way if I don’t have the paint can for the room in my garage, I can take the light switch cover off and see exactly what I used in the room if I need to touch it up.

Hi Monica! Love your videos. Anyone ever told you that you favor Adele? Lol Question: When taping off trim, I noticed you said it's easier.. if I'm correct that's because you don't have to run with a card or 5&1 tool to make sure it's flush? I noticed that the painters tape on the trim seems skinnier than one in baseboard. Is that just a optical illusion? Thanks

@@diyenlightmentpath6102 I use to paint for a company and pretty much everybody used a different method variation even down to cleaning your brushes and containers. I learned a lot and did it for two summers while in college. I do prefer this method because you only have to tape once. After half a summer I was just using a cardboard box piece with a straight edge and not taping because it was faster but it also stopped the paint from getting on the trim or the wall.

What is so unique about this paint brush is you can bend it and put it on the end of your extension pole. You won’t need to go up and down a ladder as much! You can purchase this unique paint brush at Lowe’s. Cheers!

Do they have a video on paint clean up? How to clean brushes, cans, buckets, and tools? How to dispose of old paint cans, or paint. Best way/place to store the left over paint for touch ups later?
@edswift41245 жыл бұрын
Well I see your question was sometime back. But I'll help you with it. Cleaning brushes is your first priority. If used in a water based paint, then use dawn or some soap. Even bar soap so long as you didn't let the bristles get hard by waiting too long. You should clean your brushes periodically during use, and at the end of each day every day till finished. If you did let them dry, say over lunch, then don't panic, Just buy some lacquer thinner and soak the brushes in it for 5 or 8 minutes then Wire brush them out using a wire brush that's wide and about the size of an old fashioned scrub brush. The more bristles the better, even a grill brush works great.Don't come down too hard on the bristle as it will cut the fibers/hairs and damage your paint brush. Brush it out while laying it on a piece of flat wood so you can bear down some. Try not to leave the lacquer thinner on it too long because it has a hot nature to it and a drying effect on the bristle. It has a softening effect on the paint and will allow you to brush that all out of your brush, then it's ready to be washed with soap and water. Brush it each time you wash it again till really clean. I like Dawn, and or Murphys oil soap is an excellent painters soap all around. Do ths soap part as many as three or four times if necessary until the bristles are as they were when you bought it and the water under the faucet rinses clean. Its like you were brushing hair. Treat them kindly but be thorough. Do it while they're wet with soap and warm water not hot. Brush and rinse till the bristle are clean all the way to the ferrule. (The metal.) Do this as many times as necessary so the bristle are clean and no paint is visible all the way up. Rinse and wrap with a paper towel to help maintain it's original shape. I've been know to lather up with soap before wrapping to help me restore the brush to it's original shape and hold the bristles together. Just rinse before you use it and your ready to go. For oil base brushes it's the same process except don't put a good quality oil base brush down in water no matter what anybody tells you. If your brushes won't come clean because you inadvertently let them dry too long with paint on them, then clean them with lacquer thinner but rinse right away after you wire brush them clean with the corresponding thinner, ie. Water, Or mineral spirits to neutralize the lacquer thinner, as it is hot and will ruin your brush if left in there permanently, or even just too long. Don't turn your back on this cleaning process till it's done. Never leave your brushes in lacquer thinner for more than a few minutes at the most, and never overnight. CAUTION! LACQUER THINNER IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE! If your doing this indoors, Then be careful of sparks or any open flames, and for God sake don't smoke or keep you cell phone in the vicinity of your work area! If it scares you, then do the initial cleaning phase if you even have to do it at all, outdoors. Otherwise all pilot lights should be turned off! And you must think long and hard about any sparks. Even a doorbell! Keep your wits about you and It's safe for this. just follow this protocol, and you'll save your brushes and will have them for years to come. Now there's another way and its slower but safer. Buy some Trisodium. Phosphate it comes in a box like laundry soap. It's a powerful alkaline degreaser and paint softener. But its water soluble. The more you pour the stronger it is. It's powder. And looks like soap. It can burn you because its caustic. Myself I put my hands in it if that tells you anything, but if your sensitive you can wear rubber gloves. To dispose of small buckets of paint remove the lids and let them dry out. Or create a sand pit in your yard somewhere safe where children and pets won't get into it, kitty litter also works if you can keep the neighborhood cats out of it long enough for the paint to dry. Pour the paint into the sand and let it dry out. In some municipalities it's legal to then put the dried out paint and sand into the regular trash. Check so EPA doesn't come knocking. And they could. Sometimes you can advertise it for free, and real estate investors will come by and pick it up because they collect it mix it altogether in 55 gallon drums and paint their rental property with it. So there's a couple of options for you. I hope that helps. On storing your paint. Keep it in a warm place to prevent freezing. That's number one. Make sure they're sealed properly. Tightly. Mark your cans or in some other way keep a record of the labels with all of its numbers. For example. Take a picture close up of the stock number, and the colorants shot into the paint if it was a custom color. They usually put a sticker on the lid.They often get covered with paint during use so get this information first so you can save it in case you need to buy some more. Especially if your stored paint goes moldy on you or freezes. That way you'll have a record you can take to the store instead of that nasty old stuff nobody wants to handle. Cut the numbers off of the label and tape it to the back side of a plastic light switch cover plate and it'll be there for years to come. Hope that helps.

Monica, I appreciate your videos! They fill in the gaps between what I've learned by trial and error and pro tips. My step dad was the first person to teach me about painting walls. He was not a pro but he had a method that I thought might be of service to offer here. Before pouring from a new gallon of paint can to tray he would do two things. After taking the lid off the can he would take a nail and hammer and puncture the inside groove of the top of the ridge of the can in four or five spots around the can. That way when paint was being poured out of the can it would drain from the groove directly back into the gallon can. Secondly, he would take a piece of paper towel and tare it into to strips and twist it into paper towel ropes. He then would press the paper towel ropes into the groove of the the top ridge of the gallon can (Usually with a flat head screw driver.) before pouring paint out of the can. He would lay the lid on top of the gallon can while painting. Then when the painting project was complete he would take the towel rope out of the groove leaving a clean surface to place the lid back in the groove. Sounds tedious, I know. When I have followed his example I find I'm happier with the result in terms of storage of the left over paint and getting the lid off of the can the next time. Then I also have a question for you. What is the five point tool for exactly? What does the half circle cut out part of the tool do? Thank you so much for your videos. I learn from your work all the time. I appreciate how you break a project down to doable common sense steps. I appreciate seeing what tools you use, how you use them, the tips along the way and then seeing the finished results. I leave your videos inspired and thinking "I can do that!" So thank you:)

I use a little makeup or a regular canvas brush around the ceiling..... I suck at painting. I get paint everywhere. No matter what I do. So I came up with the best way is call one of my friends to do it. Then I cook them dinner. Works for me.
