Thanks so much. We followed this step by step, although for just the basic version and downsized for a smaller dog. The video, drawings and step by step instructions were invaluable. We spent about $150 on materials at Lowes.
@lesleyswan76712 жыл бұрын
What dimensions did you scale down to? I was adding materials to my cart and it was quickly creeping to $300 + so Im not sure what I am doing differently but Id love to get advice on how to keep the price down. Did you use pressure treated lumber for the base?
@twestcase2 жыл бұрын
@@lesleyswan7671 we spent just under $200. Ours was about 3 feet wide by 2 feet deep by 2 feet tall. It was almost 6 months ago and I’ve forgotten how our finished product differed from the one in the video, but I did redraw the plans and make it much more simple and basic to meet our needs. Also, we made a removable roof (a lid) instead of a hinged roof.
@twestcase2 жыл бұрын
@@lesleyswan7671 oh, and yes, we used pressure treated lumber.

Roofer here You did a good job. There's a metal piece that goes on the very top to prevent water from getting in the top side of the shingles kind of like the metal edge you put before but it's a lot wider and goes on top of roofs without a ridge. Also caulking the nails would help make it last longer without leaking. I've never done framing before and I was going to use 2x4 for a smaller outhouse for an outdoor cat lol. I actually have some spare 2x2 but I might need more. Hopefully mine comes out half as good as yours lol you're too good

Is the pressure treated wood safe for dogs and other animals?
@theburris4 жыл бұрын
Technically yes. It would be the same as your dog laying out on a brand new deck you built. I would advise putting a nice comfy bed in there or even painting/sealing the wood if the pressure treating is something you aren’t comfortable with. Hope this helps. Thanks for the question! 👍

I am building this now and the printed instructions failed to mentioned that you removed the shingles to add the turf to the roof (which I just installed yesterday). Can I just apply the turf on top of the shingles? Also, I improvised and used a Flex-Seal type product vs purchasing the 36"x150' felt paper.

Looks great, how well do you think the turf will hold up over time? Any reason you removed the asphalt beforehand?

Late reply but it’s been a year and it still looks great. I removed the asphalt shingle so I could show you the process for doing it without using an asphalt shingle first. You could honestly do it overtop of it though.
