What I admire about you, Damian, is that you show people that you can make do with cheaper options and still enjoy the great outdoors. It's all about mind-set. You don't need 'all the gear'! Yes, good gear is great, but if you haven't got the wherewithal to invest in the 'Gucci' stuff, you can still go wild-camping... I know it makes sense. ;)

I can deflate it in about 2 minutes but there always seems to be a little bit air left so difficult to get into the stuff sack. I do like the mat and offers a better night sleep than my Thermarest Prolite. Its just a small gripe because to be fair, it didn't take long to break camp and head down hill as I was cold. Nice one Damian I've got a Nikon DSLR with built in time lapse and a Samyang 14 ml wide angle which I use for my night stuff . I like your style of cooking lean cuisine ,what doesn't stick in your throat. and the go pro shows your more Debonair stylish grey haired looks lol ,Great video love the lakes ,keep a hold see you soon ATB Paul
@Fell_Wanderer5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 is a lovely inexpensive lens for landscapes and astrophotography, I can't get over how bright and sharp it is under low light. I put magic lantern on Mandy's older 500D and although it can't do video at 25fps, it can now do timelapses with the intervalometer. Part of me can't wait for the dark nights to take starlapses, but I'm wishing the summer away just when its started. I've got a couple of ideas for a new camp, will email the details and will be free next week and at the weekend.

Brilliant once again Damian, those views were great, shame about the wind, it bothers me more than rain! Love the lightweight bivy style it’s what I mostly enjoy doing, lighter the pack the further you can go. Just a shame my mates don’t feel the same, they are 120l plus pack size! Thanks again mate, all the best.
@Fell_Wanderer5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dean, with minimal gear there is always the risk of the weather turning bad and things get miserable. It was too windy to pitch a tarp so somewhere more sheltered would have been better but I would have lost the views. I think the best all round setup for lightweight in the hills when the weather can turn nasty and be protected from the elements is an enclosed bivy like the Snugpak Stratosphere or your Dutch army bivy, ATB, Damian

Sorry your trusty hand cam has given up, but that GoPro provided some beautiful shots. Those titanium cookware items transmit heat so well that it’s normal to burn things in them, but it looks like you cracked it by using a low-heat option in the wax burner. Love those one-pot meals!

Sorry your main cam has died i cant help you there but did i hear you need a torch! i might have a spare for you mate ;-)
@Fell_Wanderer5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Richy, my main camera is working again, the zoom/focus mechanism was sticking so kept shutting down. I took it apart and sprayed switch cleaner inside and now it works again. The gopro offers a better wide angle and video quality but no image stabilization and zoom lens, so both cameras have their good points and bad. Thanks for the offer of a torch, I have several and had left them at home. ATB, Damian.

@Fell_Wanderer5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, it was a cold night, the wind was strong, drawing the heat from my sleeping bag which is getting old and loosing loft. Cracking video Damian canny views looks like a great place you looked freezing mate my main camra broke around 4 months ago so just been using my gopro need to get it fixed or buy a new one got a price of £300 to fix it so thinking about getting a new one any recommendations mate atvb jimmy 😎 😎
@Fell_Wanderer5 жыл бұрын
thanks jimmy, it was cold through the night and got worse in the morning. i just got up and left, no point staying around in weather like that mate. recommending a camera is a bit tricky and subjective because it depends on a number of things, whether weight and size is an issue and do you want to take good pictures as well as video?if size and weight is important and you want something small and compact, the gopro hero7 silver or black are worth considering, both models are waterproof and have image stabilization but the black is more smooth and they both do 4k video, although the black being the highest spec, does 4k at higher framerates, good for slow motion.camcorders are fairly compact, inexpensive and can offer zoom, image stabilization and ease of use in a small package, although internal mics are usually shite, some models like my panasonic hc-x900 have good audio and image stabilization. canon, sony and panasonic are good makes but depends on budget as there are lots of models. look for ois image stabilization on panasonic, that’s what mine has and its silky smooth, optical zoom rather than digital because with the latter, you are only zooming into the pixels. 4k is worth considering, it will make your camera more future proof. it is pc intensive for editing but you can still do 1080p or downscale 4k to 1080p for youtube and still have better quality because it has more pixels. currys has a panasonic hc-v770 for around £300 which is newer model to my panasonic hc-x900 with the hybrid ois image stabilization. its only 1080p but has x20 optical zoom and the audio should be ok if its like mine. dslr and mirrorless camera’s are worth considering if you want to take good still images as well as 1080p or 4k video. they can be a bit more bulky with extra lenses but more versatile than camcorders. i’m going to buy a canon m50, its an entry level mirrorless camera and highly recommended for travelling and making youtube videos. its small compact and light and its like a dslr and camcorder all in one plus it does 4k but its £600 and about the most i’ll pay for a camera
@LundysWildcampBushcraft5 жыл бұрын
@@Fell_Wanderer thanks Damian mate that is a lot to think about I will take on board your advice I like a small and compact camera that can do both video and photos not keen on dslr's I will do more research as I like the night vision and lighting that come with my other one but really like the size and weight of the gopro camra's having something that is waterproof would be beneficial for the times when the weather is shitty and need to record and not worry about damaging it like my last one thanks for taking the time to give me all the information damion appreciate it mate will look at some of them you recommend atvb tc jimmy 😎 😎 🤘🤘🤘
