Basically Grenfell tower is in an extremely poor area of London that just happens to be within one of the richest areas of the City the building exterior was renovated because the wealthy areas that surround it considered it an eyesore, they used the cheapest material allowed (non fireproof cladding) to save money. The buildings fire codes were not updated to reflect this, when the building was originally built it had very thick walls and huge fire doors as a way of compartmentalizing any fires so the instructions for residents in case of fire was for people to shelter in place. The cladding caught fire from an electrical fault on a fridge and the fire and spread rapidly from floor to floor because it wasn't part of the original design. Over time many of the buildings internal fire doors had been replaced with cheap household doors and other things such as fire escapes being blocked residents of the building (mostly working class poor/ethnic minorities) had been complaing about this potential fire hazard for over 3 years. They have still not had any justice, the government and the local council have been trying to blame the fire brigade, but the reality is that over the last 10 years the rightwing conservative government in the UK had massively cut budgets to public services including the fire brigade, furthermore the conservative government swore they'd rehouse the survivors and still havn't rehoused all of them years later. To compound the insanity the project manager who over saw the construction wasn't qualified he was just the son of the owner of the company, and yet no one's gone to jail, no one has even been charged. Also it should be mentioned that the official death toll was in the 70's but its suspected that many more may have died in the build as so many people are still missing and many people were subletting.

The council covered the building with a cheap flammable cladding to make it look more appealing to the rich people on the next street. The rooms were meant to stop the spread of fire by containing it in a fireproof room. The cladding circumvented that safety measure by allowing fire to spread on the outside of the building and caused the whole building to go up in flames. Residents were told to stay inside to prevent the fire spreading, not knowing it had already spread. The council has been found responsible for four of the seventy two deaths. So far no individual has been prosecuted and there are still thousands of buildings with the same cladding across the UK.

The building burning down was live on tv. Pretty much all perished inside, and some even dived out in desperation, and died. The building was not fit, was dangerous to inhabit. As soon as it fire started it spread rapidly. Shockingly sad😢 , how so many women & children burned to death stuck in that s-hole building. Horrible. These buildings (council estates) are like the PROJECTS, so almost all living there are pretty poor in the first place.

FYI Lowkey is not in this video. I presume his intention was to focus on the families of the victims and people of the local area. Mia Khalil is though - she's the one singing. The Arabic part means "Tell me where to go, people are burning at the hour of sahoor ( a meal eaten before dawn), I feel as if I am in another world". I'd thoroughly recommend checking out other Lowkey tracks, Ahmed, Obamanation, Terrorist and his freestyles. He is someone that had been basically blackballed by the industry because of his political views (Pro Palestine, Anti war, somewhat anti capitalist).

It's was broadcast live the entire time we all saw these people screaming trapped in the building with people outside begging for them to be rescued. The building is a big tomb now they didn't recover alot of people and as you can see alot are still unaccounted for. It was due to the cladding on the outside of the building a huge investigation was done and other buildings were found to be just as at risk so major changes had to be made

the people in the intro were either people that witnessed it, relatives of those who died, or they live in the neighbouring tower blocks- the blocks you see at the end are whitstable house, dixon house, markland house, and frinistead house which are all part of lancaster estate where grenfell tower was located. also the reason why mia is singing in arabic is because most of the victims were of arabic background. the only thing that has happened is that the survivors and families of the victims recently got compensation, nothing else. the government are planning to tear it down this month - keep in mind some of the victims bodies still havent been found, meaning they are still in there

Lowkey isn't in the video. It's probably been explained to you, but the building was filled with mainly poorer families but was in a particularly affluent part of London. The wealthy people near by wanted it to look nice so the Tory council covered it in cheap but more attractive thermal cladding. However, the cladding was unsafe and the council also ignored lots of other safety complaints by the tenants. They saved a lot of money by using the cheaper and illegal cladding. Then there was a fire and the fire procedure was to tell people to stay in their homes until the fire was put out. It didn't account for the whole building being covered in highly flammable cladding. As a result, over 85 people died. At first, the council tried to cover their backs by playing down the numbers and blaming the cladding on contractors. It took a long time for the survivors to be rehomed and compensated and I believe that many are still waiting for their dues. The people in the videos are survivors and friends and relatives. The only exception is Khalil who sings the chorus and the bridge. Lowkey lived in the next block, knew people in the fire and was there all night when the fire happened. There is a follow up (part 2) to this song recorded a year later. I don't think Lowkey is actually in that video either. Lowkey is a rapper activist, so the Tory run media don't give him anything like the attention that he deserves. I could recommend Lowkey tracks for days for you guys to check out. It's hard to know where to start really.

I was at university in London when this happened and I unfortunately remember it like it was yesterday. I remember going to my cello teacher’s house the morning it was burning; she lives in Westbourne Park, two tube stops and probably only a 5 minute walk away (the tube line was obviously closed as the tracks are right next to the tower so I got the bus). I got to the end of her road and it felt like a scene from a film, the tower was clearly in my view, the sirens were constant and the smoke was so thick and had travelled incredibly far. I couldn’t stop staring - it was horrific, and the smell was insane. By this time it had been burning for 9 straight hours. We watched for around half an hour and then sat in silence and shock for an hour after. Even though I wasn’t involved it really affected me; I had nightmares about being trapped inside a burning building for months….and my old friend who I studied with lived literally opposite the tower and couldn’t help but watch as it was burning - she was in shock for a long time. It was a dark day and I and I’m sure many others still reel from it deeply, even now. I just hope some day that justice is properly served for the sake of the uprooted lives and the lives that were lost. Although I doubt it will ever happen now.

The residents for years asked the council authority to improve safety like fire extinguishers. Yet £50k was spent pretting the building so the rich neighbours didn't have to look at the ugly tower. The same year the council donated £5 million a opera company. These social housing tenants of one of the richest councils died due to negligence. Lowkey is calling out the Local Council.

I'm replying in order, the man with the African hat is a local Ladbroke Grove brilliant man, a musician and artist, a central elder who keeps balance, the faces are the real pictures which were put up on walls, lists of hundreds of missing people, there were not 72!! we all know the truth and there are hundreds if not thousands of us.. we are a tale of 2 cities, the richest and poorest alongside each other, in the highest density populated area in the country.. David Cameron and his other 3 cronies lived within a mile of Grenfell Tower, it was to say the least a land grab, between leading figures that wanted us low-lifes off the land, so they could sell sell sell, like in Gaza basically, incredibly valuable land... The men, women and our offspring in the video are all locals, many musicians and artists, activists or rather brilliant men and women who for years before the fire were active in fighting the social injustices every day, they are some of the hundreds of witnesses on the night, those who became the local emergency crew from that night onwards, hundreds of us gave our lives that night and never came back from it, we witnessed the truth and so it cannot be undone, there are too many of us.. we just passed the 7th anniversary, justice will not be had 20 years later like Hillsborough, or not! As the song says, the blood is on their hands, and we know who's hands they are, the ashes will be on their graves... and LIKE THE PHOENIX WE WILL RISE.. and I would say we are rising, in Ladbroke Grove, and beyond.. We are in it for the win, we lost too many, we have Faith - immense Courage and fearless Love ! 🙏 💜
