That entire first 7 and a half minutes I was smiling and lol irl. That was great. I have the utmost respect for Clem, Serral and all the higher echelon SC players, but this was refreshing and fun to watch.

I would say that Bonaan didn't really 'realise' it so much as he knew that from the start. Bonaan is a cannon rush-only player, and he does not do any other strat. He has various variants of cannon rushes, but they are all cannon rushes. He is around Rank 50 to Rank 25 GM, and if his cannon rush fails he loses to the same level of player, so he already knows he cannot possibly defeat a pro, especially one of the best players like Clem, in a normal game.

There's certainly things to be said, but in general cannon rushing you learn more micro techniques than most other people do, like most of the people I trust to say adept shade dodge mines are cannon rushers, over many pros, and there are some specific micro stuff many I know practice with. I think many cannon rushers likely have less practice with large scale battle micro.

I think boanaan had a decent shot in game 2 if they’d expanded instead of going for double proxy gate at the end there. I mean you’re still trying to beat Clem, which is going to be a hell of a challenge, but I think it would’ve been better to just expand instead of sending another probe across to spend more resources on the other side of the map.

Yeah, most likely that would have been the better option. Really the problem was earlier when boanaan wasn't committing to overwhelming the bunker in range or using cannons to outrange, and that caused a lot of trouble. Personally, I think using range on the bunker would have been the better call there, and his tech just got delayed

Bonaan is an only-cannon rush player. He has invested heavily into the art of cannon rushing, and if the cannon rush fails he might as well give up because he's never beating another player on his level in a macro game, lest of all Clem.

Fun to watch! In the last game if Boanan had kept Tempests at the proxy, and started building up stalker count in preparation for the counterattack a bit sooner, and put the stasis ward as a fall back for stalkers instead of out in its own, he could have had a two base to one advantage and lost to Clem much more slowly.

Boanaan has great micro sometime, like when he escaped his probe by cancelling 3 buildings, but quite poor at other times. He did not harass as much as he could and lost some of his units without mooving them. I'm sure he can improve his cheeses again !

I don't really know why people think of it as 'cheese', it's as valid a tactic as anything else imo. If anything why get bogged down in an uncertain attritional war when you could finish it quickly. It was a pleasure to watch Boanaan play, I think arguably his biggest mistakes were: a) Either not cutting his loses and 'running' or b) why put your infrastructure in the one area where your opponent has to counter-attack in order to break out? Like that fleet beacon; cos his pants were down after that. I love how he was eco-ing behind his crazy 'all-in's'.

They're just really bad, can only work with the cannons and batteries, even still it's in unfavored match up for the tempest. The only thing you can really do is keep the distance and use vision to pick off

@@hivetech4903 That still stands; I dont play StarCraft. I have watched competitive gaming since 480p. I am an analyst and have a propensity in picking up patterns. I have watched enough StarCraft in the last 20+ years to recognize a potential balance contention point. There is an argument for the Viking in PvT considering most Protoss units are mechanical. Few Protoss low and mid tier units are incapable of shooting up. And the "siege mode" of vikings allow it to be a ground and and Air unit, attack ground and air units. AND be picked up by a Medivac. They can be produced quickly and en masse and 2 at a time from a single structure. Despite this, I did offer the suggestion that Tempests are severely underpowered and/ or have utility issues. Im not sure if you intentionally missed that, or if youre just one of those keyboard warriors.

Advising that to lift up a base from a cannon rushed area is quite bad. Unless the rusher is a dumb brute, building nothing than cannons and does not expand, this would only ensure a massive economy and production advantage to the toss cannon rusher. And I cant imagine that working againts bunker eushers either. Dis respecting a marrine spammie, with cannonrush, and making him use the other variaties that Terran has to ofer makes a nice game for sure, anyway!

I was kinda wondering what would happen if protoss started their expansion base where the rush is staged, or much closer. There's an undiscovered element to make this cheese a real strategy.

@@eddiekalista3222 Nah its been tried a million times - it only works at low level play. Proxy Nexus is so expensive that it delays units by a huge amount, pretty much ending the cheese. A better way is making a Nexus as the first proxy building in the opponents main, then probes and zeolots are recalled to it. Unfortunately its countered by a bunker next to the CC, also doesn't work at high level.

@@hivetech4903 But Bonaan expanded behind in all three games. Since he is to build a Nexus anyways, why not proxy it so super batteries can be an option? His play style is all-in anyway, too committed that it's virtually impossible to back to a normal game and eventually win after his opponent cleared all his proxy buildings.

On most maps like Game 1 for example there's no space to build a proxy Nexus as well as all the support structures - unless you don't build as much production / defense until later which means instant gg before the Nexus is up. Game 2 he didn't expand & failed early. Game 3 he has enough space but there are still problems: he couldn't mine from it meaning marginally less production. Also it would mean he is committing less to the cheese if he is spending energy on Overcharge, which only lasts 14 seconds & the Terran can just back off from it, as opposed to spending energy on chrono to get more units faster. Ultimately if it worked it would've been done, at this level these guys practice strategies 12 hours a day.

Not vs Terran, for a lot of reasons. On some maps could be an ok thing to really put your opponent off guard, especially with pros being unpracticed vs cannon rush in my experience. Honestly I prefer cannon rushing a pro- toss player rather than a high GM NA toss

It's not Has. Additionally, Has uses various different protoss cheese, but Bonaan is a strictly only cannon rush player, and arguably the most successful only-cannon rush player at the moment.

He is of a handful of players that do only cannon rush builds; instead of learning normal build orders and so on, they have dedicated their time into refining and perfecting cannon rush. When new maps comes out, the first thing they do is to explore cannon positions on the map. I believe the most famous of this group of people is printf, though he has taken a step back in the scene, and bonaan is the most prevalent top GM ranked player at the moment.

I really feel like Boanaan is on to something, especially with game 1. Most cannon rushes are just a pylon with cannons, just hoping to win the skill check victory. Instead, walling off with Gateways, which immediately started producing more harassment units was genius. I wanna see them keep refining this cannon rush style. Especially since they rushed all 3 games, and Clem was very close to losing games 2 and 3. If you can get that close to beating the top Terran with cheese they are expecting, there's a real strategy worth exploring.

He's onto something. Clem was very close to losing games 2 and 3, and saved it through some insane decision making and micro. I think he would've closed either of those games against anyone not in the top 3 of each race. A cheese strategy that works that well against the top Terran who is expecting that cheese needs to be explored more.

@@eddiekalista3222 Game 2 & 3 were not even remotely close, not sure what you're talking about... just because Clem can't instantly win doesn't mean his eco & army supply wasn't ahead the whole game (which they were). Clem was easily winning and the cheeses were massive failures. There is no refining a weak donkey build. Clem was not expecting it in game 1 so made several mistakes in not dealing with the probe and missing a bunker. Taking a map by surprise is about as good as these players can get, but they've been refining those cheese builds for years & there's a reason they can't close out the whole match and never win money.

The only player who fights Clem with Toss is Maxpax for the simple fact that he plays twice as much as him, Toss is garbage, the only way to pressure a Terra is for him to play worse than you, like Clem vs Maxpax if he plays If it was balanced, poor Clem wouldn't win a single game. Remember that before Clem played toss and didn't beat anyone, he just switched to Terran. I would like Maxpax to switch to Terran. I think the nerfs wouldn't take long. Lol.
