Just wanted to say a massive thanks, Nick. I recently inherited a 2018 MUX that hadn’t been driven in about 3 years. Mechanics wanted stupid money for basic things I knew I’d be able to do myself with a bit of help, considering I’ve never done anything on a car before. With your videos I’ve been able to change the cabin filter, air filter, fuel filter and change the oil + oil filter myself with minimal trouble, time and saved a shitload of money in the process. Cheers a million!

Excellent demo Nik. Will you be considering putting in a second fuel filter?
@LowRangeNick5 жыл бұрын
I will eventually put in a secondary fuel filter, it's not on the immediate to do list though 😊
@MiniLuv-19845 жыл бұрын
@@LowRangeNick Maybe share your thoughts on the secondary fuel filter? I can't see the advantage of a second fuel filter that does the same job as the factory unit. Instead, I would do what you are planning to do - replace the filter element more often. So called "bad fuel" maybe a reason if you can get a "bad fuel" filter, but I know very little about what constitutes "bad fuel".
@LowRangeNick5 жыл бұрын
@@MiniLuv-1984 Secondary fuel filters generally go before the factory filter and have a finer micron filter installed which is extremely effective at removing water and fine particles. Then the factory filter is there as a second filter to ensure your fuel system is getting very very clean fuel.

@@LowRangeNick Thanks LowRangeNick. When will your brother LongRangeNick make a show? @LowRangeNick5 жыл бұрын
@@MiniLuv-1984 Thanks alot Benny! Haha I have also been looking at long range tanks. I think I am going to go with the ARB Frontier tank as it is a plastic tank so nice and light and it replaces the factory tank but uses the space around it alot better. They are 119l tanks.
@Ex-Engineer-g8u Жыл бұрын
Thanks Nick. As a total novice I was able to follow your instructions pretty well. However, I would welcome your replies to my comments below: 1. What is the purpose of the bottom section of the Ryco filter assembly? It seems to have different fitting to the factory installed version which has slots cut into its base. 2. After 8:33 into the video you mention "tabs" - could explain what tabs you mean please? 3. I found too that too much diesel leakage/spill causes the white dots to disappear, just as I was trying to screw the top on. This was the hardest step for me, because even after lubricating the new O-ring, I had many attempts to tighten the circular locking ring before I succeeded - with no white dots to guide me! I've run the motor for 15 minutes and can't detect any fuel leaks so far - so many thanks again!
@LowRangeNick Жыл бұрын
Hi, the tabs are the tabs on the lid that line up with the flat spots on the base. I think section on the bottom is just a little filter. It can be difficult to get the lid on with aftermarket filters and o rings. Best to apply lubricant and push firmly down on the lid while tightening the locking ring.

Hi Nick, Have done the filter change as per your video. All good until I try to connect the housing back together can not get it to seal it appears right until you prime the system & it leaks. Is there a trick to the retaining ring?
@LowRangeNick Жыл бұрын
The after market o rings can be really tight. Try some vaso or lubricant on the o rings and thread. You can also apply some pressure down ward on the lid whilst turning the locking ring.

Hi mate, thank you for the video. I am struggling to screw the top back on to seal. I’m about 1 rotation short I believe. Any tips on what I could be doing wrong? Thank you
@LowRangeNick3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tee Jay, sometimes the seal can make it difficult to screw down completely. If you try lubricating all of the seals with silicone or rubber grease and then push the lid down as you screw the threaded ring on it should help seat it over the seals correctly.
@teejay6073 жыл бұрын
@@LowRangeNick I did try that mate with no luck. I haven’t serviced a car since a commodore about 8 years ago lol. When I position the fuel filter in the container does it need to face a certain direction? Thank you for the reply. Extremely handy page

When I recently changed the fuel filter it wouldn't prime after reassembly. I hadn't opened the fuel cap prior to opening the filter housing. There must have been a bit of vacuum that sucked fuel back down to the tank so that the primer couldn't pick up fuel. The fix was to undo the fuel hose at the engine, and blow air into the fuel tank forcing fuel through the engine supply line.
@julie-annemcdavid57474 ай бұрын
We did our filter via your method about a month ago. However, we have found we're having to pump the priming button (shown at 9:29min) almost weekly as it doesn't seem to stay down? Why is this happening? Is it normal? What should we do to rectify it? Cheers mate 👍
@LowRangeNick4 ай бұрын
@julie-annemcdavid5747 Hi Julie, the priming button on top of the housing with always pop back up due to the diaphragm and spring in the top of the priming unit. So it's completely normal for it to be popped up, That is where it will normally sit. I would only be concerned if you are having fuel leaks from the filter housing or the vehicle is not starting properly.
@TippyTravels5 жыл бұрын
