Neat to see this. I worked at Bergsma Furniture in Grand Rapids, Mi where the wood cases were made for Lowrey. I don't believe the MX-2 we made though, I think the last one they made was the X-1. Xmas time Lowrey would come and play their newest organ at our lunch time. Nice to recall that.

As a former organ technician who worked on Lowreys (many years ago), I remember when the MX-1 came out. It was totally awesome, and that is a word I do not use casually.

It was a monster! You actually fixed an MX1? Like a 1970's super computer. I actually took one apart once and about crapped my pants. Lucky for me, the repair was power supply. I hated Lowery products. Technics was my favorite. No silly lights to attract the old crows, just amazing voices and accompaniments.

@@lorencarlin2087 Yes, the MX-1 had flashy lights and all, but it was awesome because of the automatic accompaniment voices and jazz bass. It was the first of that kind, which is why it got a lot of attention. But I also realized that it seemed to attract a certain kind of person, probably because of the flashiness. One of my most frequent service calls was to an old toothless dumpy woman who lived in a run-down house. She spent more on that organ than for the upkeep of her house. 😬

My grandmother taught me at the age of 4 im 30 soon 31 now. And i learned how to play a Lowrey heritage nt400 organ which was basically the same as this mx2. Then she later bought a Lowry coronation which had more features then the heritage however she noticed the rhythms changed and wish she kept her heritage. She played as well as my grandfather did but he played the skate type music as well as carrousel music he was taught piano. Rest in peace gram11-29-1927 to 12-25-2017 and grampa 10/31/1922 to 02/11/2014. The was this organ is displayed and I swear I've seen this guy in person. Probably not. But where my grandmother bought the heritage in the 90s was in Connecticut. It was a amazing store in a mall I think. I remember It quite well. Amazing instruments. I'd like to aquire her organ and books and repair tune it up. And teach my kids. Even though I learned with ezplay today music it was quite fun. I myself have a yahmaha keyboard to keep me playing with lack of space. My grandmother seen the newer versions come out I shown online she liked this style it was simple vs majesty etc models.

I like that style you selected to the "Love Boat' them song. Does this model have the Golden Harp? The original MX-1 has the Golden Harp on it, but I am not sure when Lowrey brought it back as I have it on my Lowrey Royale SU 500. But sadly today, the Golden Harp is only limited to the internal Genius sounds, not available on the upper keyboard voices like it used to be on earlier Lowrye models.

Weren't these somewhere near 30 grand new? I worked at a Lowrey organ store in Rockaway NJ in the early 90's. We had one on the floor.

I just recently got a hold of one of these organs. It’s a little beat up and I noticed as I was checking the sound and other features that the preset orchestral sounds don’t seem to work for the upper keyboard. I opened up the back panel to see if there were any connection issues, but I couldn’t tell if everything was connected correctly. It looked okay, just really dusty. Does anyone have some advice on how to fix this issue?

Press: 52; then Features. Good demo, it's sad that the depreciation is SOOO bad though on it, and many models. I just sold my MX-2 (too low), and am always looking for a MX-1. So rare, and almost impossible to source chips / components.

From 1960 through about the early 1980s, we had a Lowrey in the home, starting with the old-style Holiday. Upgraded to a Brentwood, then to a Lincolnwood with an external (real) Leslie cabinet, and finally the Celebration (I think called the C-500). But when the MX-1 came out I didn't like it all. It had TOO MUCH automation. I could play organ straight-up so didn't need all the automatic assistance. In fact, without the automation, the MX-1 had FEWER accompaniment voices than the Celebration, and I found the automated rhythmic accompaniment to be too "niche" - too tightly bound to current styles that would contribute to the organ becoming dated or obsolete quickly. I estimated (roughly) that the MX-1 organ lost 50% of its abilities if you turned off the automation. When it was time to dump the Celebration, I switched to a Technics F-series console and loved it. Still have one.

Doesn't this organ have a hard drive in it? I know there's a floppy disk option for it and I also read on a forum that there's also MIDI ports to hook this up to a PC back in the days of Windows 3.1 and Windows 95

The old joke: Lowrey stands for L ots O f W ork R equired E very Y ear but as time went on they became more reliable. At 37 years you must go back to the D-575 Cotillion days. Lots of service work in that model. Are you still doing service calls? If so, in what area?
