We had heard that after Papa Dee Allen died that they never played this song again. I guess that is an urban legend. It's great to hear these guys play this song again. Long live the real WAR.

Backroads of Langston, Oklahoma was red dirt for miles and the roads lead to places unknown.. You could drive down these country roads and one connected to another.. That’s probably anymore in the world.. But I had bought this eight track tape called ‘Deliver the Word.” And this was on there and I played it going down those roads. Just losing myself in thought not knowing what I wanted to be or how I was going to get there.. I just knew that this music, that harmonica played by one of the greatest Lee Oskar just took me away. I got to find a place….over hills and dales and nothing in sight .. future bleak but the music kept me grounded .. Yes War one the main groups back then .. They call me Gypsy man.. LB June 2022

Great sound and Lee Oskar kills it. I saw War in Germany 1985 and was more impressed with Oskar than the rest. Not sure what happened with Lonnie Jordan, but long live War!

I had a Watt's Festival recording of War from the 70's doing a 28 or 30 minute version of "Gypsy Man". Lee Oskar can play most times and add to the music.

I am with you, Farm Feline, I can't think of one hit song that I've heard in the last 35 yrs wherein the live version trumps the studio. There are just too many variables at work when they are live. I know some people think the studio cuts are 'sterile' but I say: Bring on the sterility.

@@doubleghod How can you say such a thing? The studio album came out in 1975, this is a 2014 performance and while I am not feeling it like those live version from the 1970s I am grateful that most of the band is alive, physically able to perform

Lol so this guys are very talented but they are not WAR. I saw WAR in 1975 Midland Tx. Maybe they should call themselves a War tribute band

David Hernandez These are 4 of the real War players. Only Lonnie Jordan missing as he tours with a band that somehow has the right to the War name but he’s the only one from the band. THIS is Not a tribute band!
