I understand exactly why this woman votes for the DUP. Don't pretend that you don't. She's a unionist, so she has to vote for a unionist party who will most likely have power, even if she doesn't think much of them. Basically, the priority of a unionist is to vote for a unionist party, and any unionist party is better than a republican party. Its the same for people on the other side of the political spectrum

It's still extremely idiotic to be bad mouthing the party you voted for. Furthermore, she talked about how the DUP were bad, and how she voted for them because "it was either them or Sinn Féin", implying she thinks the DUP are the better party. But she didn't even give an explanation explanation as to why she wouldnt vote for SF. She is brought up learning SF are bad without knowing why.

Obviously that’s the reason why she votes DUP we aren’t stupid , she’s a Unionist I get it , but the fact that she admits that her party do nothing for them yet she still votes for them I think is foolish fair enough it’s to keep her Union but is it worth keeping the Union that much that you miss out on the basics provided by the political party in power , I’d rather live in a society where the best party wins not just voting some party for the sake of a flag , both side share the country and it’s people like her that’s keeping the country divided

She probably doesn't know where Dublin or Westminster is but if she doesn't want to be here in Ireland when unification happens then maybe she should move to England, these people live on the island of Ireland and most of them actually have Irish passports yet they have a hatred of everything Irish. Why not simply move to England she can get her English passport and be happy with herself at least. Now she doesn't have to move she is quite entitled to live in Ireland because of the common travel area agreement my own wife born and bred Yorkshire lass. She quite entitled to live in Ireland as my own wife will tell her and she has no trouble living here in Ireland as thousands of other British people have no problems with living in Ireland and maybe we can get back to having a better relationship together with Ireland and Britain and again alll the troubles are with yes unionists loyalists who cannot seem to understand that we are all equal citizens no matter if you are Irish English Scottish or Welsh we are alll equal as citizens and yes in Britain aswell I believe that all British people would want the same equal rights and so on ,,yet these same hardened unionists loyalists are quite willing to bring back the troubles or a civil war which would probably spread to Britain as well they are such lovely people if only we had a far far away planet we could send them if only 😀

School teachers, Office Managers, GOE , types. The old, pre- 1972, Ulster Unionist Party leaders and Prime Members were 'Aristocratics' from, the so called, "ruling class": Lord Craigavon, Lord Brookeborough, Lord O'Neill - of something or other. Back then, Woman MP were like 'hens teeth'- rather sparse. However, in the present day, our politics are more 'Democratised'. There are no 'Aristos' MPs dictating at Stormont nowadays. And we now have our fair share of Women MPs.👍 😋😜

The connection with Britain is such a core part of her identity as a Unionist and a Protestant that the idea of a united Ireland is unthinkable. She would also feel that Sinn Fein/IRA would have "won" and her side "lost" which would be very bitter. The DUP affirm her identity, and "protect" her from the nationalists, which is why she supports them. She may have left wing economic views, but to a unionist the union will always come first as it is central to their identity

Here is one of the catch 22’s of NI. Who else can she as a prod vote for? One of the reasons I left NI is the DUP - they are fundamentalist christians who want the people there to live by their standards, but not their double standards. The DUP are corrupt and have only ever been interested in power and maintaining that power. It’s a wonderful place and the people there are great but the political landscape is often the lowest common denominator.

They're afraid of splitting the unionist vote. If there's DUP against TUV against UUP against Sinn Fein and the unionists spread their votes then they fear SF will get it. It's quite sad actuality. But that only applies to the Westminster elections, not to the Assembly elections which use proportional representation. In that case I guess a lack of education about how PR works is the answer.
