Your videos are so artistically beautiful, it's truly humbling to see your dedication. The 6.5 x 55 is a suitably powerful cartridge, you don't need the latest 6.5 Magnum development for great results.

Thanks a lot Mark! Yes, really like the 6,5x55 or any normal sized 6,5 for that matter. 6,5mm and 7mm cartriges have in my opinion the most versatility for shooters. The only reason I don't use 7mm is local availability/cost and there really needs to be a special need for me to look at other calibers. 6,5x55 is at an unique pricepoint here and extremely available. Allthough I must add I will be getting a 6,5x284 to shoot copper bullets at max speed. Possibly.

Now the bino's are nicely protected, sits comfortably against the chest and are quick and easy to get out when needed! :-)

I solved my problem with PVC tape; as you say the original lens covers are not very good in their original shape. Thanks for the tip on the Bino Beret, I need something like that for my winter hunting. I use Swarovski now, and it's a miracle I didn't ruin the lenses on my last ski hunt. The Swaro flip covers are no better than the Leica version, and I crammed the binos full of snow 3-4 times last week. Worked great, but the pad was a little small and needed careful positioning to avoid getting wet. My home-made version is simply a larger foam pad sewn into fabric. One loop each top corner (on a revised model I'd use elastic and possibly buckles), thread your belt through this and it is arrested in place by the loops on the pants. Shape the top edge with a U cut, should go to the top of your rear pocket. If not, the sitting pad will lift and push against your jacket. Howdy Thomas, been gone for a period and catching up your amazing videos. Quick question in regards to your BDC / hunting; As in this hunting trip I guess the weather was quite different than your standard BDC setting with 12 deg / 970 hpa setting on your turret. So, before you start hunting, do you always put up a simple target at distance and verify your trajectory to be 100% certain if shooting deer at 300 meters? Or do you just calculate the diff in temp/ press and dial the clicks that differ according to the present weather?
@THLR Жыл бұрын
No. On my latest trip I had 740 hPa/ 30 deg (a very large difference from calibration) but I just took off my "significants" and dialled accordingly. It was a perfect heartshot on one and a perfect earshot on the other (which just showed the head). As long as I am confident that my rifle has held zero, I'm good.

Watching from the US.... do they sell those supressors here?
@THLR2 жыл бұрын
A-tec? Per now, I doubt it. In terms of suppressor distribution amongst shooters, we are perhaps 20 years ahead in "user acceptance" as they are an over-the-counter item here. The $ in the market has also been an incentive for product development, so they are quite good now. A-tec routinely scores top results in the large comparison tests done by gun magazine Vapentidningen.
@sig92372 жыл бұрын
Late reply, but no. In the US any foreign made suppressors would be restricted to Govt/LE agencies only. no civilian sales. So for A-tec to sell in the US they would have to set up a production facility in the US.

I could just copy/paste the answer from Archfile X. Tikka is excellent, and let legal restrictions + local availability + cost per 1000 + personal preference be the deciding factors. The theoretical differences between the cartridiges is not going to be very important. I like to use cost per 1000 (actually 3000) to show how much extra $ you might be comitting when choosing one over the other.

Light (meaning one tripod, two cameras) around 14 kgs/ 28 lbs, heavy (two tripods, three cameras) about 20kgs/40 lbs? On the hikes right around 30kgs/60 lbs. I try not to measure, but I have. Meauring sends me to internet trying to find lighter gear that usually cost too much $$$. The single component that drives the weight up is by far the tripods and cameraheads. Without camera gear I'm guessing I'd be right around 10 kgs/ 20 lbs (rifle, binos, knife, insulation, poncho). I bought a new Kuiu backpack for the longer trips and that noticably dropped the weight. I can do similar with tripods, but a lot of money for little gain. Will wait until I break the current ones.

Very dangerous walking/climbing in that terrain, especially with wet (rain) footing. Do you have cell phone coverage in case you break a leg in those rocks? I see you have adapted to the excellent new double support shooting sticks. "it's in the blood" 6.5x55 & 7x57 Yes Yes Da Da Ja Ja

Slippery for sure. No, nothing in the ways of comms here, I won't be missed until evening. So I walk/scramble accordingly, 3 points of support and no chances taken, period. I have yet to shoot any game over these, but they are so good a hunter shouldn't go without. I saw one first time 26 years ago in Scotland (home made, oak) and at the time they were virtually unknown in Norway. Thankfully more and more see the benefits of shooting supported.

How many rounds do you get out of your rifle before you rebarrel? 🤔 Been following your blog for several years and appreciate your content.
@THLR2 жыл бұрын
Not really sure; my 6,5x284s which I used for "important" stuff I just retired at 2500rds regardless of what it was doing. My "project barrels" I typically shoot 1500-2000 and sell cheap and it will usually last someone elses hunting life. 6,5x55 I haven't really counted, my current one has shot crates and I would guesstimate is has something like 4000 through it (based on what ammo I had + estimated reloads) and I'm expecting that one to go anytime. I have three barrels in reserve, all are 6,5x55 and I have budgeted those for the next 5 years.

@@THLR thank you for your response. I have a custom 6.5-284 I use for F-class competition but also two other rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor (I'm an American) and heard barrel life between The swede and Creedmoor are identical in barrel life. Do you cut your 6,5x55 to 50 cm? Is it doable?
@THLR Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I get V0 830-850 msec with 120-130gr bullets, 790-810 msec with 140gr. Compact rifle with no discernable effect on the game.

Awesome video ! Already subscribed I´m also waiting for my Blaser R8 in 6,5x55 for about 7 months. where in Portugal is not a common caliber, but im sure it is gonna be excellent. At the time i only have Hornady 140 grain SST, does any one have experience with this load ?
@THLR2 жыл бұрын
Norma MRP, Vit N560, Vit N160, Reloader 22 or similar powders will usually give excellent results with 140gr bullets in 6,5x55. In my opinion, the 6,5mm has the best balance between recoil and knockdown, making it very versatile in Europe. Especially with all the modern bullets available. Barnes 120gr TTSX with N560 or Nosler Accubond 130gr with Vit N560 are also good combinations.

@@THLR Thank you for sharing you experience. Im not into reloading yet, but in the near future will do it( to take most advantage of the 6,5 x 55 ) . For now i will use factory ammo (Norma, Hornady). Keep up the good work.

@@Joao_pereira.38 thanks! In the long run, stay away from american brands. Simply because of many old surplus rifles with weak actions, american brands tends to load the 6,5x55 to very low velocities. All European brands make 6,5x55 like it should be. With a 140gr bullet I would expect a US brand to be closer to V0 750 m/sec where the euro brand would be 800-810 msec.
