If i'm understanding it correctly, Ben sidestepped that skull by a very small margin and was therefore able to keep attacking while in a good spot

That skull explosion has a big deceptive hitbox and hurts like hell and Ben didn't even roll, just shmooved. So not just that he was playing footsies with his spacing but doing so on a razors edge with confidence.
