I always enjoy the series you do. This one should be interesting. I think you should do a series on how to get the most low end torque N/A for towing with the 4.8 5.3 and 6.0 with different size headers, cams, intakes, heads. Find a set-up that give the best area under the curve below 5000 rpm or something. And then maybe throw a turbo on the best set up of each just for fun. Keep up the great content!!!
@ahoneyman3 жыл бұрын
The intakes and heads don't really matter under 4k rpm. There is plenty of air coming through the stock stuff already. The Crane 210 seems to be a good combo that starts taking off about 4500 rpm. Below that, meh, it's a lot of work for not that much gain versus stock. Headers and exhaust are up to you. Keeping it quiet would be a priority for long towing trips since the drone can get really annoying after about 3 hours.

Anxious to see about what my 6 liter makes. Bone stock 'razor blade' rebuild, with a Summit stage 3 turbo cam. I've had several people say that my turbo cammed motor won't like nitrous. I believe the complete opposite. Specs are .600/.575, 231/238ish, 116(+5). The cam has 2 degrees of overlap, which would help seal the cylinders and not let boost leak out of the exhaust. The same principles apply for nitrous. While having little overlap will create alot more cylinder pressure, whether with nitrous or turbo, it seals the nitrous from flowing out the exhaust before or instead of combusting it. My plate can go to a 600 shot. Stinger 2 plate. I've read that these crakes and rods are strong. I guess we will see.

When he said the HP at the wheels is about 100hp less, it’s about as spot on as you can get. The first engine is a 4.8 and it dynoed at 336 with headers. My completely stock 2000 Silverado made 200whp with a stock tune and a little over 220 whp with a safe 89 oct tune (Dynojet, 2nd gear pull, 75F and 50-60% humidity). With headers and 91/93 oct (allowing more timing), it’d likely make 235-240 at the wheels; and likely a few more if the pulls were done in 3rd gear (1:1 ratio) instead of 2nd; which was done since the tires were speed rated for the top of 3rd. Besides, I wasn’t chasing big peak numbers. 2nd gear was good enough to see the gains.
@CaMOnLy894 жыл бұрын
I'm pleased to see that the 4.8 didn't lose anything on the low end, it seemed to stay relatively the same. All the gains were up top, as I suspected. Judging by the dyno graph, a cammed 4.8l wouldn't be anymore 'sluggish' with a stock stall, compared to the stock engine configuration? I'm on the fence with the 4.8 in my 11' RCSB silverado, should I work with what I have? or swap a 6.0, or 6.2? Then convert over to a 4l80e? Decisions, decisions.
