LS Swapped Benz Wilwood Brake & Steering Rack Upgrade! - LS3 280se Ep3

We're picking away at this LS3 swapped Mercedes 280se build! Now that we got our 6.2L LS engine installed into the W126 chassis, we can focus on everything around it! We're fabricating a transmission mount so we can work on getting power to the rear tires. We're also upgrading our steering system with a brand new power steering rack. That doesn't come with at least a little bit of fabrication though!
We're also throwing on a set of upgraded Wilwood brakes to give this Benz some extra stopping power before throwing on some shocks so we can get wheels back on this car and get it out the door for some body work!

The trick to weld aluminum is you dip the part in a sodium hydroxide bath to break down the oxide layer. Works way better than scotch brite.

I gotta say I love this build, I like big Mercs, smart modernising and this is more relatable than all your dope over-the-top builds. A smooth V8 with appropriate power, lowered on nice wheels that aren't huge and it's not slammed on its nose on some insane air setup. Dunno about the coming body kit though, if its an AMG style kit it'll probably turn out nice too, most aftermarket kits go way overboard.

These won't be the final wheels, but they'll at least get it over to the body shop! And we might build another tow pig for all these cars. We'll wait until we need to though! What should we use for a hauler?

@@SalvagetoSavage I wonder if you could get a carbon 5 spoke of similar desgin to the old school OEM Merc AMG rims? back to the hauler.... wing hood internationals have been done many many times. flip front binders, I like it better. C50's and 60's are out there too. Why not a 70's LT9000 Ford or a 70's Mack? If you want to go all out, find a 50'-60's KW or Pete (or even a wing front Fargo, but Deboss is doing one of those currently) and build your own chassis, power it with a DT466 or possibly a C7. 5.9's or 6.6's would be an easy choice for power. Trans, I am a Fuller guy, but an Allison Auto would make it so anyone could drive it. Really want to freak people out and get heads turning at SEMA... Run an Edison Hybrid power system with elec rear axle. Then sit a couple of C10s on a goose neck behind it.

Gonna be bad on the paint when they make a left turn and all the gas pours outta the vented gas cap?! And then have to fill it all the way to the cap to even have all the capacity anyways!! So just gonna help it leak out faster!! Come on guys!! Lmfao

Did you account for Ackerman & bumpsteer with the placement of the steering rack? Is the range of the rack enough for the rather long steering arms? After replacing the steering box on my Alfa Giulia for a rack& pinion I know it's not an easy swap.😅

Didn't mention or show anything about bump steer or Ackerman angles, did you just slap a steering rack in and hope for the best? Changing the steering arm pivot points to accommodate the new steering design?
