Long time climate activist here based in the far south of Australia. I remember the Stern Report done for the Australian government. I feel utterly let down and disgusted at the complete failure of economists, politicians, media and business leaders. So much time wasted, so much damage done.

I don't see how things will change unless we see the world and its people as one and the resources are shared fairly between all countries and people's.

'attractive' to who? hurtful to who? just exactly who is 'pushing back'?

Claiming entire societies “got rich” through high energy consumption, and that justifies other societies doing the same, is not defensible. First, some people became wealthy at the expense of others, while many are even poorer. This is clearly a flawed trajectory, and failed approach to development. So, second, others societies should not repeat the mistake, and do not have some intrinsic right to greed. Thus, third, redistribution of existing wealth and lower per capita energy use is the only reasonable pathway. Those who continuously repeat this dogma of industrial development on,y feel guilty, and need to believe they are entitled to luxuries, which they are not.

Nice paraphrase of Kissinger PhD thesis about the European diplomacy after Napoleon, too bad that realists are not anymore trained in universities, so the output is quite mediocre.
