I recently put in some deck stairs using some adjustable rafter hangers, which looked more substantial to me. Plus, they allow the stringer to butt right up to the rim joist, instead of resting on the screw heads of the bracket. But when I was done, I realized my mistake... the rafter hangers are visible from the ground level (unless you have shrubbery hiding them). I will be disassembling the whole assembly and using the regular stringer hangers. Don't make my mistake!

How much of a load will these hangers carry? I am unsure about not having a solid bottom. I am building a patio roof with 2x6s on a slope. The top will be light aluminum panels with cross nailing boards across the rafters. I will need to on the roof to install the panels.

I bought these to attach deck stair stringers to the front rim plate of my deck. I can’t seem to find how many of which type of strong-tie screw I need to use for all these holes. I have the #9 1-1/2 inch and the #9 2 1/2 inch strong-tie screws that I used for the joist hangers. Since they are only going through a 2x8 rim board I can’t believe I’d need the 2 1/2 screws for the straight entries but maybe I am wrong. There are 15 screw holes which seems like a crazy amount to have to fill each one with a screw. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thx

They have an installation manual and they illustrate what to use. As shown in the video is how many structural nails/screws you need.

you can also use them sloped straight at an angle too right? and you don't need screws? only nails??

Hi Brad Thanks for your question The LSSU can be used as a sloped hanger (up to 45’ up and down), or as a skewed hanger (left or right up to 45’), or sloped and skewed together should it be required. They are to be adjusted on site to get the optimum of slope/skew required. Please refer to our technical catalogue, pages 115,116 of the UK Catalogue relating to the LSSU I hope that helps? Thanks.
