Al Michaels seems to put a lot of more effort into calling this basketball than when he did the NBA on ABC some 15 years later. Called about 5 total college games for the network.

This w as the first year(and day) that ABC did college basketball so they likely went all in with talent.(And ABC and ESPN had some common ownership but the Cap Cities(ABC Owner) didn't own ESPN outright

This was the only game he did all season. The main team was Keith Jackson and Dick Vitale. Abc hired Gary bender the following year who would serve on the b team announcers.

@@zt1053 From what I understand, Michaels called the Pac-10 championship game two years later (in '89) with Dick Vitale as Keith Jackson was calling a Big-10 game earlier that day with David Robinson (being a guest analyst).

well, he did get to call the derek fisher last walk off vs the spurs in the playoffs. i think thats his basketball highlight.
