I’ve followed since day one and have done some similar mods to my 03 Z71 with 160k miles. These are phenomenal vehicles. I’m a carpenter/contractor and pull a 4500# double axle trailer daily with zero problems. I do typical maintenance.....just flushed the trans......disconnect top trans line at radiator.....run engine till I get bubbles (about 4 quarts) ....top off...do again...repeat till fluid runs clean. Then drop pan and do filter and seal. I have a 01 Tahoe with 267000 miles and a 05 Escalade with 114000 miles. I know these trucks. Great trucks. Thanks, Matt, for sharing your time and knowledge. I’m gonna do the front brake update when brake service time rolls around. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Semper Fidelis, Dave Heitman

Great video as always Matt. Most of what you've done crosses over to Tahiti's rivals such as the Expedition. It was your carpet cleaning video that inspired me to do the same on my Expedition, documenting it on the Ford-Trucks forum. Since it was a side project to EATC auto climate control retrofitting, I had the carpet out anyway and spent a week scrubbing and extracting 20+ years of goo out. That was a side project to doing the backup camera like you did. Those led to another project (overhead console 5-switch retrofit), then another one (auxiliary fuse/relay box retrofit) and yet another one (auxiliary front lights). The Aux lights are just the "look at me" accessory lights on Spyder Auto 1-piece housings, refitted with some bulk 5-chip 194 LED bulbs in all 12 sockets. And that got me wanting to redo the backup camera so I can turn it on manually as well as in reverse by adding a relay and wiring it up to the next switch on the overhead console. Curse you for giving me ideas... :D Right now, just after 1am thanksgiving morning, there's 2 thumbs down on it. Probably from people that drive around in filthy cars full of garbage all the time.

Hey Matt! I have to admit that I've been watching your Tahiti videos and slowly making changes on my 2001 Silverado. My truck is a farm truck and tows various trailers and hauls hay. One of the changes I made that you might want to consider is replacing the rear axle bump stops with a set of Timbres SES springs. I know you tow and I've been thinking about how well they would work and am now wondering why I didnt do this sooner. They are about $230. I like them over air bags as there is no maintnance and no extra stuff to deal with. You keep stock ride empty and they help keep things level when towing. Give them a look!!

She's lookin' good. My '01 Tahoe's aftermarket headlights/turn signals are about the same age and haven't held up as well. The turn signal for the right side has stopped working and does not trigger the rear signal anymore, and the lenses for the headlights are starting to show some crazing. I have some new OEM type rears to install, and a third brake light to install. I'd love to do something other than OEM style tail lights, but, being the ambulance door rear, no one seems interested in giving that body type any love... only the hatch type. "?" Lovin' the thought of the wheels/brakes upgrade more and more. Rock on with that Tahoe.

Truck still looks great, instead of Back to Black, try Cerakote Trim wipes, they work really well and definitely keep the black trim and the rear old faded bumper lot better, just wash it and use some isopropryl alcohol to clean it good so theres no oils. That sling goo on the side may be some tar or something heavy. Try some Iron Remover from adams and a clay bar treatment over the truck too on your next wash and wax after so it adds protection.

I bought a new Loaded, 2003 Avalanche. In 2007 I bought a new 2008 Corvette which I ordered My Way from the factory. The 2008 recession took both. When I saw the Corvette leaving my driveway, which I also lost, I felt nothing. When the Avalanche drove away, that was a different story. It was the best vehicle I ever owned and miss it every day. Had a new 1983 Z/28 which I loved but that's long gone. Loved that body style and still do. Now I have a 2002 GMC Sierra with 407K miles which has only needed basic and minor rebuilding (water pump, brake lines, etc.), and have a 2004 Chevrolet Express 3500 Shuttle Bus which I use for camping. I need to have a mechanic go through it thoroughly as I will be putting miles on it. Right now I'm dealing with Misfire and fuel injection codes which are random, not constant. At 70, I just can't get into that stuff myself. Kinda burned myself out trying to build race car replicas from scratch with a recession coming. Who knew? I love GM!

I have an 02 Yukon xl with the stock rear sub, and I just ran an rca to an amp in the trunk, since I got a good deal on an auxiliary sub and box. I think you could probably use the stock wiring and box though, of course as long as you get a small enough sub (I think an 8” might be as big as you can go but it should still sound good). There are vids all over yt showing how to do that. The toughest part for me was running the wires from the front, especially the power cable since you have to find a place to run it through the firewall. There’s a passthrough for all the internal electronics which you can peel up and shove the wire through. It’s on the drivers side right behind the fuse box. Be really careful not to slice any of the wires. From there you need to run the cable behind the hood release latch (definitely remove the trim first) and remove the front and rear driver door well floor trim. There’s a nice channel that you can fit all your wiring in that goes all the way to the back. Something that’s helpful to have is some clothes hanger wire (only a foot or so), because you have to run the rca behind the dash and it can be a pain in the ass if the cable bends too much. Just attach it with some tape to add some rigidity. Something else: I bought a 15’ rca cable but that ended up being too short for my XL. If you have a Tahoe/Yukon you should be fine, but the XL/suburban need at least 20’ if you still want to use the 3rd row seats. I ended up getting a 5’ extension and that did the trick. I don’t have rear audio controls so I can’t comment on that. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
