LT40 4x4 tour of the drivetrain and suspension

1989 VW LT40 4X4 suspension show and tell and questions for you.

Opposite corners are sitting at 8" above pavement.
Tires are 33" tall.
I recently bought this, my first 4X4, and I'm getting to know what all the parts are and what they do and what it will do.
I'm hoping to connect with others that have an LT to compare what was stock and what was custom on the suspension.

i did have a VW-LT 45 when i was young, slow car, but damm strong, it's the best car i did ever have, i did drive in it for 9 years.

Hi, beginning of the year we bought a 1995 VW LT40 4x4 in Germany and took it back to switzerland with us. Originally it belonged to an firedepartment in switzerland, they used it for group transportation. We are going to convert it into a campervan/expedition van. We will also ship ourselves and the car to Halifax in Spring 2020 to beginn our trip trough canada, alaska, the U.S. And south america. Maybe we can stay in touch and meet up when we are in the U.S.:) do a tour of the converted camper!

Spare tire carrier not stock. Leaf springs are stock. Shackles not stock and likely to be "lift" contributors. The spacers from the axle to the spring are stock. The rear axle is stock Hurth. rear axle bump stops are NLA. I bought the last two and lost one. 7:19 is stock, not added.

replace the split wheels with a standard wheel and proper size tire might be way easier to solve some of the issues

What issue? Split Rim allows repair without a shop. Is there something else?
