Specific details are important but what is more crucial is the substance of the message. This is not a classroom lecture about historical events rather it is an inspirational message about the essence of values, morality, and ethical standards in the military service, The core of his message is SERVANT LEADERSHIP.

I also served under his command. From Aug 96 to Aug 2000. I was in Camp Pendleton CA. I actually attended a Ceremony and he was the motivational speaker. Those 4 years were awesome and will always remember that Once a MARINE always a MARINE. Horrraaahh

Krulak is an absolute FRAUD, just like so many of the so-called "leaders" in the military. This FRAUD is a boot-licking, kowtowing, LIBERAL who is bowing down to Joe plagiarism Biden. Do your research. A complete waste of a uniform, unworthy not only of any "brass" on his collar, unworthy to be referred to as a "Marine", but also unworthy to be even referred to as an "American". We had a name for his kind when I served: SEA LAWYER. Self-serving, self-absorbed, and DISGUSTING.

He signed my re-enlistment paperwork as the CMC [I was out 12 years & tried to come back to active duty & at the time was the most broken time re-enlistment at the time, June 26 1996]

I met this gentleman LTGen. Charles Krulak, as he was the CEO of MBNA Bank (Europe) in Chester for some years. A down to earth guy.

Without a doubt one of the best discussions of why Integrity and Moral Courage are such fundamental tenants of our military ethos. The examples he provides and the comparisons to events of the time are just as relevant in today's environment of moral and political uncertainty. This video had a profound impact on me the first time I saw it at a Leadership school in the mid-90s and it is every bit as moving today. Thanks to the Stockdale Center for making it available.

I watched him pin on his BG as the CG of 2dMarDiv, then shook his hand as the MG of 2dFSSG after returning from the Gulf War.

I mean no disrespect to GEN Krulak, however when he tells the June of 1966 Vietnam story and mentions Platoon Leader Lt Oliver North, it does not make sense since Oliver North was USNA class of 1968 and would have been a new second class Midshipman (Junior) at that time. Maybe he got his dates mixed up from various tours in Vietnam.

The lance corporal he mentions "Grable" or "Crabo" is not found anywhere in the Navy Cross records. That was MoH not NC action. I am contacting HQMC to see if they lost the paperwork.

I agree. I also am not trying to be disrespectful but Oliver North was running his secret war in Central America until the lid came off and he was exposed. Before you oorahh North, he lied to the American people, our Congress and the world. He ran for a Senate seat, I believe, in Virginia and many described him as a disgraced. There was another security cabinet member who served in the Marines and was contemplating suicide. His name was Robert McFarland.

I am very sorry to contradict Gen Krulak, and I do so respectfully. I understand that our memories grow dustier as we grow older and perhaps the exact details are not as important to his speech to these future young warriors that he was speaking to that day as the message he was trying to impart. This in no way is meant to imply that the General is not a truthful man. Simply that when you have lived as long as the General and have done as much as he has you tend to get things jumbled up. Operation "Hastings" appears to have taken place between 1966 - 1968 so it is possible young Lt. North was there at the end. the operation the General is speaking about the "helicopter valley D-day" operation took place between 15 july and 3 August 1966. Lt north was not there at that time. No Lcpl received the Navy Cross and there was no Lcpl Grable on the personnel roster. So the General is confused about some of the details of the events that he is speaking about. He is still a fine American who served his country with honor and distinction. Besides reading from the actual war record is no where as interesting or inspiring as listening to the a man who has lived through the history tell the story.

Notice how he kept drawing on this story but dropped checkable references; thus, no mention of Ollie North and Lcpl Grable becomes Smith. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqivhmaDlLCUh80
