Chief Ofurhie was born in Sapele, Delta State to the family of Deacon Abraham Ofurhie and Mrs Alice Ofurhie.
His formal education began at American Baptist Primary School, Sapele and his secondary school was Government College Ughelli both in Delta state. With his excellent results, he gained admission into the University of Ibadan where he earned a degree in Geology, after which he proceeded to France where he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology.
Chief Ofurhie then began working as a Geologist at the Nigerian National Oil Company which later became (NNPC). As a result of his hard work and unrelenting dedication to duty, he enjoyed a very rapid progression in his career and he quickly rose to become a Senior Geologist.
In summary:
1981-1985: A Deputy Manager / Head of Exploration.
1988-1991: GM Exploration production Operations Chad Basin of Nigeria.
1991-1993: GM JVD at NAPIMS.
1993-1996: Executive Director Operations for Nigeria Petroleum Development Company.
1996-1999: MD/CEO NPDC
1999-2001: MD/CEO NGC
2001-2005: Director of Department of Petroleum and Chairman Governing Council of the Petroleum Training Institute.
He was an active member of various professional bodies and community development associations where he continued to play a significant role till his retirement and even after
Chief Ofurhie not only a family man and devoted friend, he was truly a nobleman whose values of hard work, integrity and benevolence created a network of goodwill across the globe.
He is sorely missed.
