What kind of arrangements are possible for o/o’s with your company? I’m retired and am looking into working in the tanker sector after selling my previous company

I've been in food service for 3 years, and I just got my hazmat and tanker. I was thinking about switching, but most of the tanker positions don't pay overtime. But it requires us to work it, even though they are not paying time and a half. At least food service pay time and a half.

Fuel hauling is the worst job in trucking. Everyone talks about money they never tell you what you have to go through every day to make it.

Tf lol. Bro it’s one of the most easiest jobs out there. I should know that’s literally what I do every day. I go in at 2 AM and I’m out of by 2 PM. I start off my day between a 30 to 45 minute pre-trip and setting up for the day getting. Looking through my loads seeing where am I going around the city for the day. I go to the rack takes about 20 to 30 minutes to load depending how many trucks are at the rack loading. Some days I drive 4 hours to get to one store and some days I drive 10 minutes to get to one store. I get paid by the hour, I’m not on load pay. I’ve been at my company for three months. I have made $33,000 gross so far. I really enjoy my job. Could I see myself doing this for the next 20 years possibly. I’m home every day.

You have to do what you need to do bro. I just got a bid here at ABF. I also took a look at my stub from when I started in September to end of the year. Just within 3 months ABF has invested over 13 1/2 thousand just on health and welfare benefits and pension and holiday. No other company does that. The totem pole B.S is short term sacrifice long term gain. I really suggest hanging on. I’ve done the math on hauling fuel. Health benefits are worth more than a schedule

I left LTL to Fuel hauling and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made so far. I don’t get paid by the load like other fuel hauling companies. I get paid by the HR. I don’t work for a contract company either I work for the actual store. Just like Loves, Flying J, etc. If you’re looking to get into fuel hauling. Get with the store companies. I know loves has like a monthly bonus for safety. My company has a quarterly bonus for safety.

Hello Sir, did my road test with ABF today I believe went well (hooking and unhooking a set, back up a pup to a dock, plus 15 miles of road test, no problem) he said I did good, I did P&D with reddaway for almost 3 years so I have LTL experience, just a piece of advise my trainer made me do a DMV like type cab inspection with air brakes, governor cut out test etc, afterwards he asked for my DL and SS card and had me sign some ABF paperwork, gave me driver and hazmat handbook and some other company paperwork, he said corporate will get in touch with me and that what's that. Just wanted to share my story.

I currently drive for XPO. I’m kind of burnt out on it to be honest. We spend more time on the dock than we do driving, which is fine, it’s in the job description, but I’m starting to feel like a glorified dock worker. Plus, night time linehaul is where you really make your money, and 12-14 hour night shifts take a toll on the family. I’m thinking of looking around at other LTL companies. LTL is a great business model in my opinion. I think it’s just about finding which company executes that model the best.

Do you take a pay cut when working on dock or do you have a flat rate, im at FXF and im on the 2/3 level of the scale and i get $36.61 for linehaul work which is maybe about 4hrs a night unless i get lucky and get an xtra run from whatever station i go to and $28.84 for dock or railyard work so in reality im at about $32hr and its all straight time no OT pay but im feeling you when you say you are burned out FXF seems like a good place to be but in reality id have to move to another station preferably a hub to actually make the $$ i want to

I’m currently at Xpo in Los Angeles. Driving the truck is 82 cents a mile, anything else is 35.89 an hour. The dock work sucks! You load your set and believe you are about to start driving back to your terminal till you get stopped and told to do another break out (unload another trailer). You can make a good check but you deal with a whole lot of bullshit! Especially if your new! Get ready to be bent over and rammed no Vaseline status!

People are always concerned about chasing nickels and dimes... they don't look at the long run like you did. Thats is always one of my first questions too but I'm always nervous to ask. My only regret is that I chased the nickles and dimes instead of looking at the long run with paid benefits and pension... smh. There was a driver at the company I work at that went to Old Dom and came back after 2 weeks. After that happened I was even more skeptical. I was going to get on with SAIA but they decided not to hire me because I have no doubles experience even though I have a clean driving record and have had my CDL since I was 19 (35 now). Hauling fuel is a good job. It's easy but I don't want to have to be out here until I fall over on the loading rack and give up the ghost.

@@MrByTheMile No complaining from me. Just pointing out the risk. Look at Yellow, and now UPS post "big contract win" laying off people. The teamsters seem to think, and then convince everyone that supports them that every company is against the employee and has infinite money. When the economy turns bad as it is doing now, you will be laid off in seniority order and then need to get another job anyways regardless of being part of a union or not. This always hurts young guys with families the most. I wish everyone the best, but please be realistic a Union company is not always the answer or the best option.
