Fabulous episode. I was actually in the complex yesterday, changing from the DLR onto the District Line west bound. I look forward to be changing from the DLR onto the Northern Line this Wednesday. Thanks for putting this episode out at a very good time.

Yes sorry youtube won’t have given much notice for the premier - it was an 11hr overnight edit from me and hard work from our small but dedicated marketing team to get this to premiere in time. Normal service with more lead time resumes next week!

Thinking that the disused running tunnels would also make great potential additional exit only routes to street level for the morning rush hour but also aid quicker evacuation.

Greetings from the USA! I got addicted to a show on the Underground that is now in its second series on a network there. I was perusing KZbin for more tube content when I came across this fabulous podcast. It is really better than the show and goes much deeper into the subject matter. (yes, pun intended). What I wish to know is how are the curved tunnel sections created? I mean in the Charing Cross episode, there is a curved section set with leftover cast iron sections from the Victoria Line I believe. Are there special lining sections for curved tunnels, or are shims employed between the sections to make the curve?
@alexgrundon2346
@alexgrundon2346 2 жыл бұрын
LOVE YOU! There are special shaped cast rings to make the tunnel bend. Next time you’re over in UK, come on one of our tours and we’ll show you! You’ll love it almost as much as we love you for finding us and watching! ❤️

Why dont the lift connect DLR, Northern, Central, booking hall and exit. As a disabled person I hate searching for the next lift when I get out of one.there are diagram of lifts but there is no indication of the distance between them.the two worst forms disabled at moment are Green Park and Kings Cross
@chrisnix6352
@chrisnix6352 2 жыл бұрын
The reason is that the stations were built as separate rival railways originally and are quite a distance from each other so their ticket halls can’t vertically integrate by a single lift. The existing Central ticket hall especially is too far away. What they have done instead is an incredible piece of engineering that uses the available space as well as possible. They’ve built a new station entrance with a lift core to Northern and DLR and the travolator to central. The new entrance and moving walkway should be open by the end of the year.
@allanfstone
@allanfstone 2 жыл бұрын
Because the lifts only go up and down so they can’t cope with the side-to-side movement that would be needed to connect all those places.

Rename the combined Bank and Monument stations to "(The) City" or "(The) City & Monument" and the City Thameslink station to "London Central" (and when this should get a built-in connection to St Paul's station, name that complex "London Central, St. Paul's").
@alexgrundon2346
@alexgrundon2346 2 жыл бұрын
Nah. Bank is so historic…the original terminus of the Central line (Shepherds Bush being the other end when it opened in 1900) so Bank is probably the ideal name
@raphaelnikolaus0486
@raphaelnikolaus0486 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexgrundon2346 Well, but the first station that was opened there (if my research is orrect) was the one by the Waterloo & City Rwy (an extension to the L&SWR) .. and that was named "City". But on the other hand: all the following openings were named Bank, so in the end it was 2 Bank stations and 1 City station. So: yeah, not an incorrect name.
@alexgrundon2346
@alexgrundon2346 2 жыл бұрын
Best stay with Bank. City would be pretty geographically meaningless. London’s the city. Bank is where the Bank of England is. And Monument is where the Monument is. Simples.
