@@TheBeardedBurton I have a large toolbox with a workstation up top set up in my study, and an entire drawer is dedicated just to LT knives (and a couple Woodsmonkey folders, too). I'm a collector myself, but, aside from a few Redwall orders, mine are all fairly bone stock. I've never had much luck with the Christmas Sale or drawings/giveaways.

Kabar Eskabar, Cold Steel AD10, PKS Kephart, Esee Nesmuk, A kukri or Becker 9 would be my dream set up. A 6th category would be super rust resistent serrated folder with blunt tip like the Spyderco salt series similar to what is issued to the Coast Gaurd.

Thanks for showing us your favorite knives and explaining your approach. You seem to live in a quite warm environment, otherwise you would never favor an aluminium handle, in wintertime you'd hardly get a box opened before your knife hand is frozen! Your custom knives look nice and it's a sign of quality, if they hold up to the 'fools method'. of batoning by beating on the tip like crazy to drive the blade through the wood - but do you know there's a SMART way to baton? When you cut your baton, cut a second one and saw it in two at a shallow angle to make it into two wedges, then drive the blade in overhead the wood, where it's strong, remove the blade and go on with the wedges. This way you can 'baton' wood of any size with almost every blade, even with a SAK. It's no extra work, you get a bunch of tinder and kindling from carving the wedges, and when you're done, the wedges can be used as firewood. Don't need an expensive, big, heavy knife though there's no danger of compromising the blade, no limits to the size of wood - that's why I call it 'smart batoning'

No one was ever confused before the Internet came out, 1095 was king. Most people had a Bowie knife and a fillet knife anything over and beyond that were saws and axes….

Well yes my Bowie is still my goto camp knife, with an SAK in my pocket. For a chopper I have a nice bearded axe, with not the hardest of steels and a Condor Lochnessmuk, which is like a big brother to the standard Nessmuk and is a bit like a Kukri when it comes to use. I did not like the profile of the blade however and made some modifications. Neck knife has never been a thing for me. It was always Bowie in my youth, never came across a Scandi before that young puppy Ray Mears came along, it was Lofty Wiseman and Eddie McGee before that.

Are you able to choose the type of steel for your knife during the knife class? Im in PA, but it’s been a goal of mine to eventually get down to the shop and take a class if I’m ever able to save up the funds. I’m not a steel snob, but O1 rusts if you look at it the wrong way, and I just don’t like it as a knife steel. I much prefer A2 or 3v. And speaking of 3v, I finally was able to pick up an Illuminous 5, and let me just say, this knife exceeded my expectations. I’ve wanted this for years, and finally snagged one. You guys are the best
@LTWrightKnives3 ай бұрын
We use O1 for the class knives because you heat treat the knife yourself during the class. That is not possible with A2 or 3V.

1. Microtech LUDT 2. I dislike neck knives, but like small edc fixed blades, which i typically scout carry. My favorite is the Bradford Guardian 3 in magnacut. The Tops Street Scalpal 2.0 and Esee Izula are close runners up. 3.Adventure Sworn Mountaineer 4. Didi Galgalu, William Collins Northern Survival knife, and Esee 6 in orange and venom green. 5. Esee Jungulas in orange and venom green (of course only a moron would buy a different color Esee. OVG is the ONLY CORRECT Esee color scheme.) Natchez Bowie.
