With the size and scale of some DLC I'm ok with them being able to make the list against so called 'complete' games. But it has to be really impressive as a DLC or have been a year in which very few games worth considering have been released - if that year has been almost all "Franchise ++" copy paste the previous game 'new' games... Similar for Remake/Remaster - unless they are doing something really impressive in the process or the game is so old it really is more a new game inspired by the old it is going to be an uphill battle to actually deserve a place.

@@RicochetForce Some DLC have more content and more innovation than the vast majority of 'real' releases by your measuring system. And for good measure even those huge DLC's are usually sold cheaper even including the current price of the original base game than a 'new' game. Heck sometimes they are even given away! I'm not saying every DLC merits consideration, but some do - when you have a whole new game's worth of actually new stuff it is comparable to a 'standalone product'. It is much the same as the way you might rate Season 2 of a TV series alongside Season 1 of another that year.

You need like atleast a 90 critic score to even get a good chance of being nominated. Wukong for some reason got chosen despite not even being close to that. Silent Hill 2 is a Remake. Wich means that next to Rebirth, we would see two remakes. That is also NOT okay. I think Tekken 8 and Prince of Persia lost crown would have been right. Like a Dragon and DD2 cant go on here cause there are also 2 other RPGs already included with one of them being...apparently SOTE..

Forget about DLC. Final fantasy rebirth, is good, but the story isnt full. What happens with the black materia??? Vincent appears near the end. All the games you mentioned have a beggining and an end. FF rebirth doesnt, but gets nominated. I know is a popularity contest, but it kinda piss me off hahaha

@@domiiinik4320 The FF7 remake trilogy is barely comparable to the original game. It's similar to the difference between the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy and the two movies from 1978 and 1980. They have a similar story structure and share character names, but are seriously different.

@@kewa_design You certainly don't need to finish a game to have an opinion, but Nine Sols has a kinda slow start. If you played less than two hours, you _maybe_ finished the tutorial. Not saying you need to give it another chance-if it's not for you, it's not for you-but "I didn't enjoy the tutorial, the game is awful" is a pretty wild take.

It's an 8/10 game at best, crippled by the same bullshit that Elden Ring was (unncessary padding yet still some empty areas, reused bosses and enemies, ASININE boss design in some parts (Prime Consort Radahn pre-nerf, Sunflower boss, Gaius, to name just a few) and an overall lack of care that they're doing it again because they know guys like you will excuse any bullshit they do and call it a perfect 10/10 game. And this is coming from someone who has thousands of hours across FROM's catalogue. Meanwhile, SH2 might be a remake, but it's something incredible - it's a remake that somehow manages to be even better than the original, which already was a pretty much 10/10 game.

To me SH2 is a perfect example of how to completely lose all the subtlety and feeling that made the original so iconic just to chase the remake trend and hollywoodise it. Setting aside the fact that the whole thing is in about as good taste as a pop-art Mona Lisa, it's also just a mid tier action/horror bloated with unnecessary and tedious combat and reliant on overused first-time indie dev tier corner camp jumpscares for a majority of its gameplay. About the only things I can compliment it on are the graphics (which had better be good with how ass the performance is) and the base story that they didn't even have to write. Meanwhile SotE is better than the base game which was already outstanding. Better bosses, amazing atmosphere, and even the more 'empty' areas of the game like Jagged Peak and Abyssal Woods had their own unique atmospheric or gameplay components that made them engaging and memorable if you weren't trying to rush through them. Overall I agree it's an 8/10, but in times when almost everything else is a 6/10 at best it's deserving of its credit

As a veteran of these guys, my very unpopular opinion is that by and large bosses have progressively gotten more and more asinine, rather than better, and combat with them has become either a matter of summoning or tediously trudging it out for hours because they now have input reading, overly long combos, bullshit moves, and more. The actually fair and well-designed bosses such as Midra, Metyr, Messmer and such are a highlight, sure, but there is also a whole bunch of absolutely asinine bosses that remind me of the worst, most unbalanced bullshit in vanilla, such as Malenia and duo boss fights of pretty much any sort. The thing is, the community wants this. Even though we have a game that has enemies ripped from Sekiro and/or Bloodborne game mechanics, your character can neither parry/block nor dodge as well as the hunter or Sekiro, making you feel decidedly like your character is playing one type of game and some bosses another. I'm not saying it's "too hard" nor do I need to "git gud" - they are just unreasonably difficult to the point that whoever passes Elden Ring with no trouble with any boss will then play the rest of the Souls catalogue with one arm tied behind their back (cept maybe for the DS3 DLC which started the epic bullshit bosses trend, tbh). But yeah, I'm getting way off topic. You have your opinion about both ER and SH2 I have mine. I am actually more salty, as a diehard oldschool fan of SH2 (even had a covers band covering the music) at how asininely adamant people are at shitting on the remake even though most haven't played it, but hey - Imma guess you did and it just didn't gel with you. It did with me, even though I absolutely hated anything that Bloober has done up to that point other than observer. On the other hand, you seem to absolutely love the direction FROM is taking their games, whereas I'm getting a bit tired of the sweatiness and asset flipping myself. Agree to disagree, like you said. Phantom liberty was a good DLC, but didnt get nominated for game of the year. the same about the witcher 3 DLCs. Like imagine blood and wine winning over overwatch. Shadow of the erdtree is good, but for me was the worst DLC of from soft. Dark souls 1 has an amazing dlc, Bloodborne, even ds3. But this one is the weakiest, maybe above ds2. But for me Silent Hill 2 should be in the awards. Bloober team made an excelent work, and they deserve praise. Besides the story is full, I know what happened from the beggining to an end, not like Final Fantasy, that is a Part 2

My first thought when i saw it. Phantom Liberty had its own unique map and story that made me cry. The Witcher DLCs were also super expansive and beautiful. If those weren't nominated then I don't get why the rules changed now?

I love how Luality still a year later, even after playing Veilgard, is so in love with Baldur's Gate that her videos still use the music and soundtrack. Watching her finish DAVG to immediately jump back to BG3 shows truly how much playing DAVG made her want to like it for being a good RPG, but it would never be close to the spark that is BG3.

It's the first game of the slavic dev (who started the development alone btw), and the game had a massive success at launch of EA with 173k players on steam, without the game pass players number (the game is helped by XBox game studios) Still, there was full strategy games which launch this year who are not in the list like Homeworld 3, TW Pharaoh, ARA, Sins 2, etc... The question is more : Who decide which game should be in the list or not, and on which criteria ?

The Game Awards are essentially turning into the new E3. They're more concerned about releasing new trailers for games rather than giving respect to the people who have worked hard into making the games people enjoy. That's especially emphasized by the fact they keep forcing award winners to speak on even more limited time every year, and the fact that Geoff Keighley just announces winners to "lower" awards in between game trailers. Just imagine if the Oscars was only about movie trailers and barely focused on the actual awards, that's pretty much what TGA has become.

I love indie games and it's most of my playtime. But I think GOTY ought to be awarded to Wukong. As western consumers we should celebrate and encourage projects of such scope coming from China. They surely have many talented artists who are confined to developing ripoffs and money-grabbers in order to make ends meet : they just cannot afford to create outside of their market. Hopefully Game Science opened the door.

SILENT HILL 2 is probably my GOTY. The storytelling is great and it made me feel things I didn’t expect. However, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for it for Best Narrative because there are no major transformative changes from the original. As a result, I pulled the lever for LIKE A DRAGON: INFINITE WEALTH, which had my second favorite story in a game all year.

This actually gives a decent glimpse at why making it not just a public vote is important. Luality hasn't played FF7 Rebirth, hasn't played Metaphor. Thus she can't pick either in any categories. Both of these are considered top contenders for each of their categories. By putting too much emphasis on public votes, the Game Awards stop rewarding the best titles and instead reward the most popular ones. If you take into account that basically all of China would vote for Black Myth Wukong in all categories, this could massively skew the results. Is it great that so much power is given to a small group of industry members instead of the audience? Nope. But it's not as bad as the alternative.

finally someone sane who saw through the cheapness of the ER dlc. thank you Lua. Counterpoint for Wukong though...yes it's a boss rush. However, every boss is unique and the amount of combos you can throw at the bosses is unreal. masterin the combat in Wukong is part of the fun imo. It's not as complex as in Nioh 1 or 2, but it's definitely a step up from basic attack and dodge. A parry mechanic would have been nice tho. also the cutscenes are breathaking in Wukong. amazing storytelling.

Elden Ring DLC should not have been nominated, period. However, your gripe with Elden Ring is more a you issue than an issue with the game itself. You don't find as much joy anymore in them, and that's okay! But to say that this is a flaw with the design of those games itself is quite surprising and narrow-minded imo. When you describe those games "you attack, you defend, you die, and you repeat over and over again", that's deeply unfair and manipulative because you could boil down every game that way to make them sound worse than they are. I get not enjoying them as much anymore. But what you said wasn't fair at all.

Elden Ring to me is such a pure gaming experience. 99% of the game is legitimate gameplay and you are in control always. I’m more of a fan of that than having to sit through walls of text or dialogue that occupies time but you’re not actually really playing or doing anything. I think my problem with Elden Ring is mostly that previous souls game did some things better with less repetitive content and I find that Fromsoftware is great at designing non open world areas that are full of little traps and engaging moments and that's missing from the game. What a lot of people are experiencing now with Elden Ring I've been experiencing with their previous games for many years. And I just find that Elden Ring in a way took a bit from the experience simplifying it rather than adding depth.

My family are always contrarians to what I enjoy 😂 I’ve tried explaining to him how much he’d probably enjoy it if he gave it a shot. And yeah for me Elden Ring isn’t my favorite Souls game. It’s Dark Souls 1 or Bloodborne. But I still love the world they crafted overall and it’s filled with so much unique architecture and landscapes and beauty. The way the map unfolded was so cool to witness the first time around. I think ER is at its peak for your first playthrough where the sense of wonder is at an all time high.

My problem with SotE being nominated isn't even that it is a DLC (although it is a little silly), for me it is mainly because it is not a great DLC compared to other DLCs From Soft made and I find it incredibly overrated just like base ER which even though is a very good game is very far from being perfect. Edit: Also I smashed that like for the first minute and a half of the video because I feel similar about souls games as well.

It's not even a matter of the game being good or not, it's about whether or not you can take the game seriously. And in the case of Stellar Blade, literally everybody knows you can't take it seriously and its target audience is teenage boys. I don't know why people in Western countries try so hard to deny their disgust of media hyper-sexualisation, it's important to be aware that there are other cultures besides the Anglo-Saxon one. And in those other cultures, Stellar Blade can absolutely be taken seriously, and its target audience is adult men.

DLC being worthy of a nomination for game of year has happened a few times, especially in recent years as there have been some really really impressive DLC's from folks like CDProjektRed that are almost a whole new game worth of quality story or some new innovative gameplay twists and so many 'new' games are bland copy paste from a pervious game ++ whatever number is on the end... There haven't always been many really high effort quality games released in a year. But in this case...

I totally agree. Nominating it for GOTY makes zero sense together with putting a DLC there. Stellar Blade, SH2 and Warhammer all deserved to be there instead of those two games in my opinion. Personally I think Black Myth Wukong is overhyped by many content creators as well, even If I do think it is a good game, just like I think Balatro is, but I don't think it is THAT good.

I played Astrobot, Metaphor and Final Fantasy and honestly they could give the game of the year to any of them and I wouldn’t mind/disagree. They were all solid 8.5-9/10’s. There just wasn’t that one big game that deserved it above all this year but 8.5-9 isn’t bad.

While I really enjoy SotE and imho ER is equal to DS3, SotE shouldn't be a gane of the year nomination. Rather have Dragons Dogma 2, Stella Blade, Like a Dragon, Helldivers 2, or hell even sparking zero. Edit: honestly catogorie where I can see SotE is Music, since I love the Boss theams

I mean im not even gonna mention the dlc but Wu Kong was a good game.not a great one. It was competent at what it did but all it did was what nioh and wolong did. There wasnt anything ground breaking. Silent hill 2 remake, helldivers 2, space marines 2, stellarblade. All these games deserve spots more either for being one of the best in their genre for the year or for the impact theyve had in the genre this year.

Stellar Blade and/or Lies of P should've been nominated. But I have to disagree, SoTE was a super unique experience. Imo it is better than the base game. I genuinely don't understand the copy paste comment about the divine beast, which boss are we referring to? Anyways, different lids for different pots. I do prefer souls/souls-like to any others. Since Blood and Wine got the W, I think its completely fair.

DLCs and Remasters should not be eligible for the big awards. They could create a new category for them though. Remakes....there is at least a discussion to be had, but in my opinion they should also be excluded unless the game is so old that a modern remake is indeed a new game - remakes of games from the 1980's for example I'd be okay with. 6:40 I'm sorry, but in the narrative category remakes MUST be excluded. The narrative is years old, it is not from last year. What comes next - a remake of BG2 and putting it into best narrative? Sorry, but no. Narrative is the category where no remakes or remasters have a place under any circumstances. Oh yeah, Fortnite is such a great ongoing game. So great in fact that the actual primary game mode of the game - which is NOT the PvP Battle Royal nonsense, it is the base building co-op mode - got completely forgotten and abandoned. Great, really. 11:19 Manor Lords hands down. The only category The Failguard would belong in is the category "Worst trash of the Year".

The only game I've actually played from this year (so far) was TLOU Part 2 Remastered. I hadn't even heard of Balatro until it got nominated but having just watched some gameplay, I'll definitely be picking it up. DLC should have it's own category, along with remakes, imo

To be fair, a game adaptation doesn't necessarily need to be based around the gameplay itself, that would be so limiting. It's more telling a story within the universe that resonates with the game. So, with League having a ton of lore around their characters already, Arcane does resonate with the game. I don't know, I think I might be biased against Fallout. It was too much comedy, very timid about seriousness, and not enough development -- pretty much exactly like the games... which I really only play to mod the heck out of them and explore the modded open world. That being said, I fully agree that DLC shouldn't be nominated for Game of the Year, and Most Anticipated shouldn't be an Award. Especially since the vast majority of the customer base of these potential games only counts for 10% of the vote. I also think that Space Marine 2 should have been a contender for Game of the Year. But I have a feeling that action games will be hard pressed to be nominated unless they literally set records. But the story was good, and the cinematic experience was amazing.

Massive doesnt mean anything if a big part of it has little substance. Metaphor is just as long, but has less content. However almost every content in the game has substance and it doesnt feel like youre wasting your time nearly as much. Its like almost everything has a good reason and purpose behind it. Its diffucult predicting who is gonna take it.
