It is nice to see this place has not changed in 10 years. I was there in 2013 and it's nice to see it has not been spoiled by tourism and commerciality.

Yeah, still nice, but some comments here suggests that the tourist numbers have picked up a bit after I made this video.

was there 2005... a bit touristy already.. but it was great since nobody was on their phones all the time and vloggers wasnt a thing yet. it was a bit rough but fun. from searching hostels to long hour van rides to vang vieng, or the 2 days (or 3 if your boat breakdown in the middle of nowhere) slowboat trip. i love Luang Prabang during thr cold season. the morning mist while watching the morning alms & having hot milk tea along the river or some hot noodle soup at the night market.

I tend to agree with the $50 Us, I've travelled 300 kms in a small van spent over half of the 2 days discovering stayed the night for $5 got the same bus back to Chaing Mai, $10 US same up to Chaing Rai, across the Mekong to Laos, massive buffet lunch 14 hour return trip stopping seeing heaps, shopping, about the same cost, $15 US.
@erikssc Жыл бұрын
Yup, you can definitely get it cheaper if you shop around. I booked it through my hotel, which was not a budget hotel, so probably a bit more expensive because of that.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. Could you briefly describe the weather in Luang Prabang in August? Is it too rainy to travel there? many thanks

Well, you made pretty simple and uneventful life of this place look quite idyllic. Even though there is not much happening there, the video appears interesting and attractive. Very good quality of the recording.

Thanks! 😊 It's a quiet and laid back place, but I really enjoyed my time there. Probably going back some day.

The easiest way to get a visa is on arrival, not online; $10 (350 baht) for a seat on a minibus to town per person is not 'cheap'., the equivalent relatively short distance in Thailand would be more like $4 (150 baht). The Riverside is an overpriced hotel choice for those for whom money is no object, there are plenty of other very comfortable similar places to stay elsewhere in town which are at a much more realistic and affordable rate.
@erikssc Жыл бұрын
I agree that you can do things much cheaper than I did if you are in a budget. I tend to go for convenience over price these days😊. However 10 USD for a taxi from an airport to a city centre would be cheap in any city if you ask me. Of course it will be cheaper on a bus. Also, about the visa, I have done both on arrival and on-line. Both is ok, but personally I like to have most of my stuff organised before I arrive so I do not ned to do to much on arrival.
@harveythompson1756 Жыл бұрын
@@erikssc As far as taxi fares are concerned we are not talking about 'in any city'; this is a small town in Asia. The airport is relatively very close to the town centre (LP is not a city)...about 20 minutes duration. Also as far as hotels, they are many of similar quality and ambience in town which do not demand such high prices as the over hyped 'Riverside'.

How is police and scam situation? Compared to bangkok?
@erikssc10 ай бұрын
I didn't encounter any police or any scams while I was there so think it's pretty safe. In Bangkok I think it pretty safe too. As long as you have read up on the most normal scams they are easy to avoid.
@svuvmdv460810 ай бұрын

The place is now ruined by hundreds of Thai tour mini-bus most of which park along the riverbank road, and generally clog up the town; and consequently the place is over run with Thai tourists. To cater for all these people, Luang Prabang has built a modern ugly 'food centre' right in town which is complete with a performance stage emitting over loud music and announcements in true Thai style. Over the last 20 years I have often spent time in LB with all its local charm; however I will not go there again.
