What a pretentious family (ex-gf's)! If they want to do an American wedding, then the bride's side of the family pays for it (especially for their own clothing), NOT YOU! Why would you pony up so much money for a horrible girlfriend and awful family in the first place?! I was more than happy to accept my $6K ring from my fiancé because that was what he could afford at the time. Even though we could afford to upgrade it now, I refused to because my love for my husband has nothing to do with material goods and since our rings were blessed, I don't want to lose that blessing. Wow. I married my husband not expecting an American proposal and or ring, yet alone a lavish wedding. He didnt get me my ring until a year later but even with that, I told him to wait for clearence sale (because Im all about savings or shopping smart). My $5K ring ended up being $400 when he purchased. Diamond goes down in value; therefore I never care for it but I'm appreciative. 5 yrs later, we were able to buy our first family home together, and gradually cash our 3 cars. Sometimes, a big wedding means nothing to a few of us. All those money can help be a better cause when u build a family later on.
