When I was kid and saw footage of Russian soldiers in the Chechen war, it seemed to me that they were mature men who had gone through tough training and were ready for anything. Now I am 26 and I clearly see in these soldiers very young guys who were sitting at their desk yesterday, making plans for a just beginning life and perhaps quite recently kissed a girl for the first time. When I saw my family again my grandmother said that she saw a television news story about the fighting off the coast of Libya . Yes, war- War, war War is a stupid lady, she's a bitch! Oh war, war goes on And the girl waits for her boy. Commander, our father, our father commander! I have never been to war. From what I know about it, it is hell, but as usual, hell brings out the best in man, and I can only imagine how strong the brothership must be there, as it probably is the only thing keeping people sane in the head. Soldiers don't deserve to die... they sacrifice all and everything. Death seems unfair

This song and footage are from Chechnya in 90,s and early 2000 's not Afghanistan. This song was a favorite of my wife's family. Chechnya was tragic but not a lost cause like Afghanistan. In fact Russia eventually crushed Chechnya and it helped make a reputation for Putin.
@HelenaRey3 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely not the case! Russia has NOT lost the war in Afghanistan. She calmly and orderly left the country for political reasons. The Afghan regime worked autonomously for another 3 years, until Yeltsin betrayed Najibulu, refusing further supplies of food, fuel and spare parts for agricultural and military equipment to Afghanistan. But in 10 years the Soviets have built in Afghanistan: civilian facilities, educational and cultural facilities, ALL the infrastructure that is still operating in Afghanistan. The Soviets also promoted democratic freedoms of citizens and the rights of women to study, work and live a civilized life. Now Afghans with bitterness admit that they have never lived as well as under the Soviets. The United States in Vietnam suffered a shameful defeat and fled hastily. The Americans left in Vietnam the fields burned by napalm and strewn with anti-personnel mines, the burned, crippled Vietnamese and own trampled ambition. The last - this is thing Americans worry about the most in to songs!

We do have Napalm Sticks To Kids though which is. . . woof, that's a rough one.

@@HelenaRey Not sure if he's saying the Soviets lost their Afghan War, rather that it was a brutal slog for the soldiers who had to fight it, often times for confusing and arbitrary reasons, much like the experiences of many American soldiers who served in Vietnam.

I remember my grandfather serving in Kosovo during the early 2000’s. He’d always share the most horrific and beautiful stories. People dying then a story about some man smuggling zippos. I loved him to death, and one of the few things I have left is a an Italian Alpini regiment beanie he got in Kosovo, an old zippo, and a vinyl record full of songs like this one. The memories this brought back were just so… overwhelmingly beautiful, my grandfather was such an amazing man and mentor.

Respect from South Africa, we have had a complicated history us and Russia, there was a time before we were invaded by the British that you were our only friend, we still honour the Russian men who came and fought side by side with us against the British invader. We have been enemies during the Cuban invasion in the Soviet days, my dad regretfully did kill Russians in Angola, we stand ambiguously with eachother now, we have civil war brewing, it is inevitable now. I have many Russian friends and I hope when our conflict comes we will stand as old friends and not as enemies. Ps. Long live the Boers! As a Russian, in no way do I support the shenanigans of the Soviet government in Southern Africa, and I'm sure that if all Russians knew the truth about the history of the Boers, most of them would be firmly on your side. I even heard some commies agreeing that Apartheid was a much better system than the shit that was installed there in '94. @QualityPen2 жыл бұрын
@@whitiley I watched an interview of people in Eastern Ukraine. Many are very angry at their army for setting up in civilian areas, including in residential areas and schools. I’m paraphrasing here, but one of the old ladies interviewed said this: “The military positions itself in the apartment building and attacks Russians. Then they run for the basement and we do too, because the soldiers are probably running to the basement for a good reason.” Of course this is then spun into propaganda in the western media… “Russia is targeting civilians” or “Russia bombed a school” or my favorite, “Russia bombed a theater with the word children written on the roof” (as if a Russian pilot or artillery operator can see what’s written on the roof from 20 miles away). The Ukrainian Army is too lightly armed to resist Russia in the open so it’s trying to make all operations into urban combat in areas still filled with people which effectively negates Russia’s advantage in artillery and tank warfare. Of course, civilians end up in the crossfire, but for Ukraine any dead civilians are a propaganda victory anyways. In Mariupol, Ukraine’s Nazi battalion Azov has been confiscating all relief shipments for their use which has led Russia to preventing the shipments from reaching the city. Azov members have also been dressing up as civilians and attempting to sneak out of the city or behind Russian lines, which is why Russia has had to repeatedly shut down escape corridors out of Mariupol. It’s been frustrating to see Russia going from trying to avoid all civilian casualties possible (and still the media saying it was targeting civilians) in the first two weeks of the war to having to attack Ukrainian positions in cities and cause collateral damage because of Ukraine’s meat shield tactics. Zelensky is going to defend his presidency to the last Ukrainian, and it’s sad to watch and even sadder that he’s being praised for it.
@steveplays1072 жыл бұрын
@@QualityPen Yeah the Ukrainian army have been fighting incredibly dirty, almost like terrorists - with no regard for their own civilian losses. Regarding Zelensky, the US is telling him what to do, he’s nothing more than a puppet.
