Very well explained..Need to add some pictures to understand the exact difference between cavitation and micro dieseling

Thank you for a very informative presentation. I do not find this dry at all FYI. Perhaps to many viewers, because the interaction of physical phenomenon is meaningless on any scale, let alone very small scale. I autopsy every mechanical failure I have, and really try to get a good comprehensive look and then try to assign causitive mode. I had really never considered the concept of micro-dieseling in hydraulic pump failures, but it fits closely with observations on pump gears. The sort of deep erosion I have seen points to a more energetic shock than I would expect from a vapor collapse like in cavitation, which I have observed to be more generalized in scope and shallower in depth. I'll add this to my mental toolbox to employ in future examinations. Thanks again.

Amazing explained! It seems to be very similar to cavitation as you said.

Glad you think so!

There are a few systems where the reservoir head space is lightly pressurized,(airplanes) but more as a way to reduce cavitation and foaming, and secondarily prevent pump-priming issues. I imagine the cooling design would also be a big factor, is the liquid allowed to settle and de-aerate prior to cooling or after?(Intake side or return side.) Usually gasses are more soluble in cool liquids so cooling before settling may result in more dissolved gas.

Could you someday post a video of pump experiencing cavitation vs pump having microdieseling; so that we can differentiate between the noises and remember them during our practical work

So the problem is that the sound is very similar. I’m not sure that I could tell the difference from the sound alone.

I'm gonna use this video as warranty repair claim. 1000 hours takeuchi have broken boom cylinder inside gaskets (upper side is completely missing), oil filter looks like he's been through D day attack, oil is full of white bubbles and there is black residue in tank... Service department is blaming me... I just dvindle those 2 sticks in cabin, how em I one responsible for all the black stuff in hydraulic tank
