I really need to know why you don't start from the middle and push the dirt outward to the side, as opposed to starting at one end and pushing the dirt all the way through the rug? Especially when using the power wand. This hurts my brain because the dirt would have 1/2 the distance to travel if you were to start in the middle. That is a beautiful rug.

I’m not in this profession, so I can’t answer with certainty, but it might have something to do with how the rug will hold up over time. My uneducated guess is that if you start from the middle, over time a visible “naked stripe” will appear with each side going in opposite directions, getting larger with each cleaning. Edit: I am writing this at 3 in the morning here, so isn’t worded the best.

@@grannysquared7140 okay, now that I’ve had a bit more sleep: Most good quality rugs that I can think of off the top of my head are made up of multiple strands of yarn connected to a mesh of some sort, the bottom of which is coated to prevent the individual strands breaking off from any sliding of the rug that may occur. The edges are then bound so that the mesh won’t fray. Starting at the edge, you have the little gap between the edge and the beginning of the strands of carpet that you can fit something like a squeegee in to start the process, only reinserting once in the middle to finish the push. He’s also doing all of his pushes in one direction during each squeegee step, and alternating directions between horizontal and vertical. When you fold a piece of paper, unfold it, and lay it down without flattening it to the surface of choice, most of the time the paper is going to be raised from the table on either side of the fold for a brief section. And if you stick something like a sticker to the paper before folding it, the sticker is going to have a harder time staying on when it’s been stuck to the area that was folded. A similar logic could be applied with rugs. When pushing in opposite directions from the exact middle (which is the most logical way one would clean something from the middle out), you’d be pushing the strands away from the center of the rug. This will cause the middle excess stress, and over time, this would cause the bottom of the strands at the point to either fray around the point where it joins the mesh or unstick from the coating. Thus creating what I believe my 3am self meant by a “naked stripe”, in which the mesh would be exposed, and possibly break if exposed to more stressers. Having that happen around the edge isn’t as big of a deal, as the most eye catching parts of the rug are usually in the center. As for the power washing and other steps? I’ll use my mopping experience here and say it’s a pain in the ass to go from the middle out.

Greetings Jakob from Northern Indiana, USA. I have an idea that might already exist? What if you had two pneumatic motors, one on each side of the rug, with a rubber track? It's connected with tube steel side to side. It runs on air? It has an adjustable height for both sides? Has a wide, 15' hard rubber scraper on it? You make a pass one way, to scrape the water, and then you reverse it. Think of how many manual water scraps you could save by running that machine? Plus saving you years of pain in your back, shoulders and wrist?
