Neutering or spaying of animals at an ‘appropriate’ adult age can be beneficial to their health. In the UK many animal lovers, especially dog owners, often choose to own 2 or maybe more. If they have no intentions of breeding them & do not want unwanted accidents (if they own both dog & bitch) then neutering/spaying may be the best option. This would save a bitch from developing pyometra which could be life threatening issue. Lowers the risk of prostate cancer in dogs. Also, protect them from being stolen for breeding.

The dog is a more noble animal than man. Dogs love you unconditionally.

Hello I’m a vet working in London 😊 I wouldn’t recommend Gumtree for purchasing pets as they’re many dodgy breeders out there, e.g. backyard breeders and puppy farms. Also, make sure you can meet the mum +/- dad with the puppies.

My opinion on owning a pet is to think, research & think again! THINK what type/breed you are wanting, the environment you are able to provide for them & most importantly, do you have the time needed to not only look after them but to spend with them as well (depending on the type & breed) RESEARCH on your chosen type/breed, how much care &/or training is needed, types of health issues they are prone to, cost of maintenance & also veterinary fees (best if you are able to take out insurance or put money aside for unforeseen problems) Once you’ve considered all of the above then THINK again, are you wholeheartedly committed in providing them a forever loving home? Can you sacrifice your personal time for them? Vacations/holidays, can they come with you? If not, do you have other family members to look after them or a reputable home boarding facility to go to? You may come across training or behavioural issues, do you have the time & patience to deal/help them overcome this? Circumstances can change. Work. Babies. Health. Finance. All can be reasons why family pets are given up! Pets are for life! So, think again… and if by now you are sure you can offer them a good home, lifetime of care & commitment then there is no doubt you will be returned with Love & Loyalty like no other!
