The Fifth Element is one of the best sci-fi movies ever. And what makes is even better is that they didn't try to milk it into a franchise.

Part of The Fifth Element’s magic is that it mostly had real sets. Same with Blade Runner. Their worlds seemed even more real which gives their audience a better connection. Both very admirable films

Amen. I’m always puzzled by how directors think the more CG the better their movie is. It’s like... uhhhh. I understand it saves time on set, but it still feels like a real film rather than an film with 2000 CG shots and only 200 real shots.

If you can put a guy in a great looking practical suit. It always looks better on camera then a cgi suit. That’s why I love the Alien Queen from Aliens cause it’s all practical guy in a suit with guys off screen controlling the movement. Jurassic Park built a huge animatronic T Rex a real physical dinosaur and again looks so good on camera.

A cartoon can be better than film. See japanese animated movies from 80's and 90's The problem with Valerian is a messy script, forgettable heroes, and a lack of proper storytelling covered with tons of CGI. Basically just like every Scifi movie now, including Dune. Its a B tier movies with a giant budget.

I have to disagree with the director. Yes practical is a pain but it looks so much better. That future city looks so good still dose today cause the whole city was a model and that always looks better then cgi. Don’t get me wrong you can get some really good looking cgi but practical still the way to go in my opinion. Cgi should be used only a little I feel some directors use it too much and it ruins the image.

Fifth element was amazing, one of the greatest sci fi movies of all time, valerian.. I have tried and tried to watch it and cannot get through it, I feel one off the main things it is missing is a strong male lead, dane dehann I thought didn't suit the part at all, I honestly thought someone like Jason statham who has tht Bruce Willis type ruggedness would have been far better and probably would have made a difference to it... Other than that it didn't have a fraction of the magic the fifth element had
