I kinda like these types of movies where there’s no real objective and it’s just some kids interacting with their surroundings

the thing is that the objective kind of gets created and mushed together as they freely do stuff. the motivations of luca, alberto, giulia, etc. are small and simple but they grow into something more. their thirst for the victory of the portorosso cup blossoms into more “in the long run” motivations. luca wanted to be free and learn in school. alberto wanted a father figure or companion to guide and be with him in life. giulia’s motivations didn’t change, exactly, but they got a whole lot stronger. she wanted to stop ercole from hurting anyone who was seen as different.

Personally, I liken this movie to Studio Ghibli's Ponyo. Ponyo is also fish out of water story about friendship. Its story also feels aimless at times and is colorful. I also find that the voice acting in Ponyo is great like Luca!

Apart from the soundtrack and the characters, my favorite aspect about this film is it's simplicity. The director gives the audience a very, very broad idea of what the theme is, but leaves it there. It does what all good art should do in my opinion, give the onlooker the tools to form their own relevant message about the story. Whether you think its a story about coming out as gay, or trans, or about immigrants or refugees, neither the director nor the film directly say "no, it cant be meaning A because it already holds meaning B" It lets the audience do some of the legwork and thats really refreshing to see, especially after no less than half a decade of the almost polar opposite in storytelling, with some films taking you out of the story to just lecture you about events that chances are, you've already seen in the news and already formed your opinions about (looking at you blackkklansman, cough cough) Overall, i haven't been following pixar's films for quite a few years now, but this movie has me eagerly waiting to see what comes next for both Pixar, and Enrico Casarosa.

Luca is a such a good movie, never get tired of it. To the visuals and the character writing, I just love it. I really wished it came out in theaters but then again I did have a good time when it came out on Disney+. The bittersweet ending was so great, I never fail to cry. The drawings during the credits are a nice touch for the aftermath of it all. Overall, one of my favorite Pixar movies.

( SPOILERS AHEAD) I really enjoyed film and I’m hoping they create a sequel most preferably a series to expand the world more and to answer the questions such as were Alberto’s father is, and how will life be for Luca once he goes off to school. We saw a small bit of how Luca and Alberto’s life in the end credits but personally I would love to see more! I just really enjoyed the concept of finding self acceptance, and learning to embrace yourself as a person! I recommend the film to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet you won’t regret it!✨ ( also I would love to do a drawing collab if you can Awesomemay)
