He comes off stage having just stunned everybody with an hour of Medtner and Ravel and does this...this guy is truly unique and an outstanding musical genius.

I remember watching that competition live! He should have won. In my heart, he was the winner! I hope he also goes on to compose and keeps playing! His musicianship displayed in every work he played in that competition, regardless of the time period, made me adore him.

when i heard debargue playing jazz, he got more than my attention, his jazz playing is also so emotional and authentic ... i was surprissed to find out in an interview that debargue got so much energy and inspiration from jazz, the spirit of jazz he said...he made me think that jazz after all is so much freer, so much more creative and independent than other musical styles, ...making such a heavy use of improvisation...having therefore great vitality, just opposite to classical music today...due to its fidelity to text... which tends to make it too many times repetitive, cold, academic, boring, and lifelessness. i just found now debargue talking about mozart like nature or close to god..." there is so much truth in mozart´s music, so much deep true love, it showed me something i would like to reach, about nature, a huge space...mozart made me look around myself...looking how great this is...how great this all is. " i also want to mention cause no one does debargue´s russian teacher these four last years, rena shereshevskaya, without her this french genius and miraculous playing probably would not have existed and survived.

Qué admirable el gran pianista Luchas Debargue! Maneja excelentemente la improvisación en el Jazz. Además, de notable pianista de la música clásica, domina la técnica jazzística. Bendiciones! Desde México.

i don´t like jazz very much... i adore jarrett´s koln concert...and this bit of debargue is very goood....rhythm is so natural, contagious, cathartic, the way he plays has a real sense of ecstasy...debargue is so humble..makes music sound so simple, so easy...and in good taste...finishes every phrase and arpeggio beautifully while so many from jazz and classic cant help make it a bit vulgar...

Better plays classical than jazz! Very good classical pianist - this show isn't jazz - this is only circus. But today I have heard Mr.Debargue on the radio in classical repertoir and that was very, very good!
@weesonicmoments8 жыл бұрын
Why is it citcus? It is a pure modal jazz.
@tomlibero37808 жыл бұрын
KoFe ...for me is big difference beetwen jazz and excersise in jazzy style.Modal material, harmony and technical mobility isn't all in jazz music.More important is Spirit - and I can't hear any spiritual aspect in this playing.
@weesonicmoments8 жыл бұрын
It is because you got used to usually hear classical compositions from this musician and maybe you cannot realize that he can play jazz) (sry for possible mistakes in my speech; it is because i am russian)
@tomlibero37808 жыл бұрын
KoFe jazz spirit is a gift f.ex. Stephane Grapelli had this gift. One time second great violinist will play jazz - that was great Yehudi Menuhin but his playing was horrible! So I think that L.Debargue have classical gift - it understanding big form, so I think that he knows that!

you need to swing and learn bebop. this is a classical pianist improvising. its not jazz yet as far as real jazz musicians are concerned. But you are a very good classical pianist!
@yassinet.benchekroun50877 жыл бұрын
Ej Lapore well, I would disagree with you, and I think it definitely is Jazz; but it is true that it is definitely not bop. Also, it's clearly heavily influenced by classical music (french contemporary music). But that is the essence of Jazz: taking multiple influences and improvising with that around famous themes !!!

Modern Jazz was build on French contemporary music and composers like Debussy or Ravel.

On the contrary, this guy is nothing, compared to Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Art Tatum, Herbie Hancock...
@MegaPianogenius8 жыл бұрын
yes i know but they couldn't play medtner etc and i know oscar was classically trained but he admitted he couldn't play to the standards required in classical either so it's a case of horses for courses
@DihelsonMendonca8 жыл бұрын
sam333 Keith Jarrett, Makoto Ozone and many others can. Jarrett has even got many grammy awards for his excellent classical renditions, and of course we can´t compare these childish improvisations here with a "professional" Jazz pianist like Bill Evans of Keith Jarrett.
@MegaPianogenius8 жыл бұрын
watch marc andre hamelin or volodos,richter and come back to me no comparison they may be able to play some classical but not to their standars by a long long way
@vova476 жыл бұрын
He doesn't understand the first thing about jazz feeling, swing and timing. Nice trying, though!
