Ramsey, I've got to say, I'm starting to realize just how much coming across your channel has been a prize moment for me. Your clear adoration of fragrances has been incredibly infectious, and I feel that your attitude towards them has really started to rub off on me. After watching several of your videos, I've found myself becoming much more introspective towards my own fragrances and I have started to go back and look at those that I haven't touched in a long while. Many of them, when coming back to sample, I have rediscovered a new joy - new nooks and crannies in the scent profiles that I hadn't discovered before. I'm sure that part of that comes with the development of one's nose, but your channel was essentially the spark that ignited the fire all over again. You have a clear, raw emotional connection to fragrances that probably goes beyond that of the average person, and that makes me happy to know that maybe I'm not so crazy by being affected by them as much as I am! So I thank you for all the content - witnessing your passion of perfumery has become one of the high points of my day!

Very nice video Ramsey! I'm a big fan of John Varvatos and Rodrigo Flores-Roux. I focused on that brand when I officially became a FragHead a few years ago. I have two bottles of Dark Rebel and Dark Rebel Rider and love them both. My favorite Varvatos is that OG with the fantastic date note. I've grouped that John Varvatos OG with a layering group I employ consisting if these date/plum/dry fruits and some leather/suede svents: Varvatos OG, Le Dandy Pour Homme by D'Orsay, Michael for Men by Michael Kors, Serge Lutens Arabie. I spray Le Dandy on my shirt closest to my nose because it is more brilliantly gourmand (check the notes out on Fragrantica!) and has more fleeting performance. Then I spray Varvatos a little lower. Then Michael Kors and Arabie lower because they are so strong and last forever. I was thinking of adding my clone of Bond no. 9 Andy Warhol (plum note) to this layering group but its probably a little too different and won't combine as well. I agree that Varvatos Vintage has something that is mildly offputting to my nose. Something screechy. But my nose may be coming round to it. Varvatos/Rodrigo Flores-Roux frags have poor performance of course. I have the $180 dollar EDP version of Houbigant Fougere Royale. I love the fragrance. One of my favorite Fougeres and I'm a big Fougere guy. Would love to get the $600 extrait full presentation version. This 2010 Fougere Royale, supposedly a modern reimagining (whatever that actually means) of the 1882 original, is similar to Amouage Bracken Man which came out later. Except Braken Man is probably even more photorealistically "fern". Fougere Royale has very good performance, as does Bracken Man. I like that Rodrigo Flores-Roux uses lots of notes in his compositions. I also like Amouage Reflection Man. I thought your description of Reflection man was right on the money. I also like Houbigant Duc de Vervins and have a bottle of the 1989 l'extreme version. See, we agree on some fragrances despite fundamentally different noses!

Great comment mate... thanks for sharing... I think i prefer bracken man and that is why I would never spend 500 on Fougere Royale Extrait...but it is a very good perfume.. i will talk about it soon. As far as Varvatos Vintage from 2006 goes on paper after an hour or so that offputting note came to the forefront again... I thought on paper it was a poorly done green pine note or balsam fir but I could be wrong... thats another one I want to wear more so I can talk about it on the channel. So many perfumes to wear & discuss & so little time 😆

I totally agree with you. A lot of the new Aventus made after 2019 is absolutely terrible. It doesn’t even last one hour.

28:00 You mention bargain bins. I don't see those anymore these days, instead I guess, nowadays they end up in "recycle bins". Which are probably literal recycle bins, that allows them to make these new releases (flankers) each month.

It's interesting, before Gabe's book, I was half convinced at one point that the original perfumer of Aventus was Rodrigo. Could've easily been a Varvatos release with that outdoorsy masculine style. A top 10 perfumer for me and a strong candidate if I were to ever commission a bespoke. Didn't Sieuzac also do a couple of Navitus perfumes? 🤔 Somehow I recall Ash bringing his name up.

Houbigant selected Rodrigo Flores-Roux for its reimagining/re-release of Fougere Royale in 2010. So Flores-Roux must have a good reputation.

@@JT-rx1eo for sure... i like his work... you can tell he is very competent ... i would say an under-rated perfumer even... he doesnt get the love of some of the other big shot noses..but he is very good & value for money on some of these are through the roof 😊

I really like dark rebel rider... but dark rebel is great too... vintage even on paper has this note that started to both me.. i dont know what it is and it is driving me crazy 🤷‍♂️
