I think I’m going to ask my teacher if I could perform this with her. I think it’s musically complex enough for me to be satisfied with a performance, but it’s simple enough in technique that I can manage it without too much trouble (I’m a composer and violinist so I understand phrasing and music theory very well, but I’ve only recently started piano). It’s so beautiful in its almost absurd simplicity of sound. There is nothing else, no work of music in the whole world, that I can compare to this. It was clearly written for children, but the underlying mechanisms of the harmony are not concepts a child would easily understand. Yet it sounds perfectly narrative and intuitive. I hope you find someone to perform this with again! :)

This is bliss, Lucas and Arthur. I still think the original duet piano as Ravel first wrote it has a simple, innocent fragility that his later orchestration and ballet never quite find. Bravo. This to me is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I remember I had the CD of the Montreal Orchestra performing it with Charles Dutoit conducting. I listen to it only once a year on my birthday as a gift to myself, it makes me cry every year.

Yes, I have watched many performances of The Mother Goose Suit Including the one with Martha Argarich and Lang Lang and this is so much better than that or any other version I have seen. This is sublime. One reason may be that most people are sight reading it and these two have it memorized, and you will never be as able to express the music as well with your face buried in the sheet music as you would be if you already have it in your head. Ravel orchestrated this piece later and of course it's magical.
