Barrios was interested not only in music, but also approached philosophy, poetry, and theology. In addition to Spanish and Guaraní, the native language of Paraguay, he spoke English, German and French. A genius!

La catedral. When i first heard this song it changed me completely i went from being a metal lover to a classical lover. ive been playing electric for about 15 years and loved it a lot. But this song changed me to the point now all i want to do is play classical. Im sad that i missed so much years that i could have spent on classical but being 31 now i won't give up and keep going till i get good

I'm 32, started playing guitar at 21, and classical at 26....La Catedral has been a goal piece of mine since I first heard it a few years ago. I fear with careers and life getting in the way I won't ever have the time or discipline to tackle such a monster. Still, every time I hear it it evokes such emotion and power, always happy to hear a new rendition even if I'm not the one playing it.

@@pablicki He escuchado a Sor a Tarrega y muchos más. O sea no creo exagerar.

He was given a quest by his goddess in a spiritual vision. He said that she gifted him with a wooden box with silver moon beam stretched across it. She called it a little box of mysteries. She tasked him with the job of taking for himself this box of mystery and to learn all of its secrets. I think he did it well. In fact, I think he did it to perfection. The 2nd movement, not the 1st one, of "La Catedral" is inspired by Bach, by the sounds of the organ in the cathedral of Montevideo, Uruguay. That's the reason, why the 2nd movement is called "Andante religioso", so an Andante in a religious mood. The 1st movement was later edited by Barrios and was written for his wife, when he was in Havanna, Cuba.

@@screamer220v I've been on a trip this past few months and I can't stop practicing all his songs, they are the first songs to make me feel what the composer meant.

I can’t say how much I’ve enjoyed your ‘5 Levels’ videos. The production is excellent. I’ve always loved your playing. And I’ve really enjoyed the background you give with the pieces…something most often overlooked. The Levels is a great concept in short format. Great to get an idea of a composer. Big thank you!
