Just watched the Greco vs Gibson and heard the original pickups, I’d would reinstall the original pickups. Original punched through that amp.

That's probably the best clean LP tone I ever heard! No harsh, woody bridge pu and no wobbly, boomy neck pu! Amazing! Thanks for posting. I never cared the headstock logo at all. I prefer to invest in substance. To that I'm in keen love to my 1979 EG900 blacky:-)

A les Paul is a les Paul ... A good les Paul dosent need to have ‘Gibson’ on the headstock Many late 70s early 80s replicas are fantastic especially if you go for the mid range and above. Tokais are especially nice 👍

To all who ask the PUs. Lucas somewhen tells these are stock PUs, so due to the 1977 cataloque and a EG 800T model, these stock PUs are Maxon (Nisshin Onpa) U-2000, Alnico 5 PUs. Better known are the higher graded Maxon PAF (EG900) and DRY Z PUs (EG1000 = sometimes traded up to 600€ a pair!).
@johnipennie20215 жыл бұрын
Also, I too agree. the original pickups sound best. Did you use that Helix on your Greco vs Gibson video? That amazing unit has endless amp configurations with easy perimeter control. That may be why I thought the new pickups sound different. They still sounded great, maybe the difference I'm hearing is the Helix! You're also I think a fantastic guitarist! I think you could make $100 guitar sound good. What a great guitar that Greco is.

Awesome playing awesome guitar. Have to pick me up one of these bad boys.
@pocketsdoesstuff38805 жыл бұрын
My suspicion is those pickups were Maxon. Possibly identical construction to Ibanez Super 70s, especially since what Ibanez did was basically throw a new name on pickups that already existed, which I believe were made by Maxon. What research I have done claims that in their day, a lot of people loved them and those that didn't tended to swap them out for DiMarzio's. Somewhere I read that if you feel like they are too microphonic, wax potting them can fix that. But I think their being microphonic may have only been an issue when they had the metal covers on them anyway.

Awesome tone. Thanks for the videos. Can you demo it with just a Marshall and no extra effects for a stripped down listen? Also how much difference do you hear in person of this guitar vs your 3 pickup guitar?

Awesome, I bought a Greco EG500 Super Real from 1979, love it . These guitars have gone up in price considerably the last year or so , still a bargain compared to a Gibson though.

They have gone up big time. I'm eyeballing an EG800 and it's up there at almost 900 USD. I'm in Canada and our dollar sucks atm so I'm looking at over 1200 that's with shipping and possibly duty.

I would like to know if body is pancake too? Pancake= excellent tone/sustain! My 74 LP Custom 20th Anniversary body is pancake. So is my Rick Turner Model 1... I just purchased a Greco EG 800GS Gold Top with P-90’s to add to the collection!!! 🥰😄👏🏼
@waynefrench66113 жыл бұрын
Yep. He did mention in one of his other vids it’s a pancake body with a maple neck. He didn’t mention a volute but it probably has one as he also said it’s essentially a copy of what Gibson was kicking out of the factory at that time (1977)

Absolutely awesome sounding Greco! Have you faced the the usual tuning issues on the Greco that Gibsons are apparently known for?

I haven't run into any tuning issues, but I did eventually change the tuners to locking grovers, for ease of string changing.

The neck pickup reminds me of Petrucci's Flight of the Bumblebee and I wouldn't change it, but the bridge pickup sounds to me very generic and nondescript. Maybe a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates replacement? ;) Sweet tones and a great guitar, nonetheless!
@LucasFowler6 жыл бұрын
I'm considering going the 70's route and putting a Dimarzio Super Distortion in there :) (with a series/parallel switch of course)
@ErebosGR6 жыл бұрын
Not really a fan of the Super Distortion (apart from Al di Meola's tone) but I'm sure you'll make it sound awesome.
@LucasFowler6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use something like a Super Distortion for all my pickups needs, but this guitar does have kind of a 70's thing going on...I do quite like Seymours, Pearly Gates sound great, maybe even a Custom 5!
