But when that happened, pucci already threw knives that would killed Jolyne. So Jotaro chose to use to use star platinum to save Jolyne instead, and when he was about to defend himself from pucci, it was already too late. Pucci then said something along the lines of Jotaro choosing to save Jolyne instead of killing him. 2 seconds is enough to kill Pucci, but not to save jolyne and kill Pucci.
