One of my very favourite duets…… surprised at a Met audience clapping before the end of the scene though,

A less believable Nemorino is difficult to imagine. He may have had a wonderful voice, but he couldn't act for toffee. I can enjoy him on cd, but videos of him are torture. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Ifmusicbethefoodoflove Egc You are quite right in most of the operas he did on stage except in Tosca, Turandot and a couple of others where he was actually reasonably convincing.

I partly disagree. He was absolutely great in many serious roles. For example, his roles in La Bohème and Tosca were always fantastic and the acting was really good too. I don’t think he’s bad here either, but yes - the comedy acting wasn’t his strength. He actually said in his book that he knew he wasn’t a great actor on stage but that he tried to deliver the message through singing. And that he certainly did - like nobody else. ❤️

The blocking doesn't help anything. It's clear that some of it is there to give context for those who don't understand what is going on, or who haven't seen the show before. For example, when Belcore sings of hearing the beat of drums, he marches along and beats an imaginary drum and twiddles his hands like he's drumming. I think that more subtle ways could be used to cue the audience in, but different directors and choreographers will have different ideas about how to block (choreograph) a show.

On va à l’opera pour la belle musique ! Ou on va au théâtre… les mises en scènes actuelles : pitié
@ifmusicbethefoodofloveegc9862 жыл бұрын
@@azertpoiuy8091 As I said, I can enjoy the music better without the distraction of a singer who, through poor acting skills doesn't add to it. Each to his own taste!
