I attended a Student Matinee in 1969 sung in English at San Francisco Opera. We students barely understood a word he sang but we loved his voice and he was quite funny. It was decades later that I realized we had seen Pavarotti.

stefano bjorling aragal were a baries, they didnt go on tenors top. Listen la donna e mobile of stefano at ed sullivan show then he was young, he didnt score A4, he cant show a clear G4, only then he uses a vibrato, but cause of vibrato, it made some fake brightness in sound +1 fake note. I listened all "tenors", they are a bunch of baries. corelli sitted on falsetto, monaco was a sandwiched widy barker, they are nothing, believe me. Its a real tenor

You won't be hearing from anyone, anyone that has ears!! how beyond marvellous... just unearthly, out of this world control and sweetness.

What an out of this world voice. When I listen carefully it almost sounds like much more than one voice coming out of this man....how can that be?! Just beautiful beyond words.
@ellenlyons74132 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing, unbelievable, the vibrato is heavenly........he absolutely does sound like two people singing, he was still wonderful as he aged, he could still sound like a Diesel engine when he was near the end, but this is unearthly beautiful.

Thank you so much for the upload. Did Pavarotti sing it in a higher key, or did the pitch go up from the recording? I think it's almost a half step higher than the original key.
@oksanalewyckyj6 жыл бұрын
It's half step higher !
@absdyna5 жыл бұрын
Probably due to tape being speeded up
@scotrule61284 жыл бұрын
GREAT EARS! Actually that’s the “other” key it is sometimes performed in, D minor. Search the sheet music and you’ll see both Bb and D minor keys are used - though the original is of course Bb minor.

This is sung in a different key than we are use to hearing it. D minor? if I’m no5 mistaken! Beautiful.

I think it is a half step higher. Perhaps the recording speed is a bit fast. Good call!

People who say Pavarotti in his prime was not the greatest tenor, they just waht to say something
@ellenlyons74134 жыл бұрын
He was the greatest tenor even when he wasn't in his prime, conductors, other tenors, many knowledgeable people say so. He had a squillo like no one else.I know next to nothing, and I say so, my heart and spirit and ears tell me this
@DavidSS1314 жыл бұрын
Just about as much as they do about Domingo, Corelli, Del Monaco, Caruso, etc... There is not such a thing like "the greatest tenor", let's stop being stupid with that kind of statement and just enjoy the music as it is, an art not a competition.
@ellenlyons74132 жыл бұрын
@@DavidSS131 of course there is a thing like the greatest tenor, like there is the greatest violinist, in anything there is always the greatest, because when all the others of his ilk say, he was the greatest, he was, and is. the greatest artist!
@DavidSS1312 жыл бұрын
@@ellenlyons7413 but it is not the case, there is not an unanimous opinion about it nor even a majority amoung the "experts", one of the reasons being that there are different kind of tenors. So amoung the greatest ones it comes just to personal preferences, since the objective criterias disappear.There are tenors even more technically gifted than Pavarotti, does that make them greater? Of course not.
@ellenlyons74132 жыл бұрын
@@DavidSS131 I dont agree, many. many from every possible facet of Opera, fellow performers, one of the first to hear him, when he began to sing, say, this man is not human. Joan Sutherland , sitting on a bench he was standing behind, leaned her head on his diaphragm to listen, and missed a few cues, to her own performance, Ricky B. her husband, said Joan you never miss cues, she said, oh but his voice, his voice. Ricky Boygne (sp) said there was no one in the wings to replace him, and likely would not be. Placido Domingo said he had never hear a voice like that, he made it look so easy. Singers in the chorus would stand in the wings to watch him and his diaphragm singing. Mdeline Renee said, he was like a computer, with unbelievable concentration. I could go on and on, that's life, best or worst. Plus, no one else makes so many of us cry to hear him.

oh sung half step up? or is the tape moving faster?
